Calculating time vs Distance!
So.. I'm making a map for my campaing.. actually i never had one before.. i just mentioned some interesting places and everything.. now that this campaing is getting serious i start doing one...
It its 27 cm (10.6 in) wide... so my question is. How many miles can a party move in a 8h normal speed walk?? and.. how should be the scale in the map.. 1cm = 5 miles ?

Re: Calculating time vs Distance!
Usual speed is 30 ft per round. 1 round is 6 seconds. 300 ft per minute. 60 ft in an hour x 8 hours = 144,000 feet in 8 hours. Divided by 5280 yields 27.27... miles in 8 hours.
Someone else can probably tell you about scale though.Dark Souls Remake in a Nutshell

The PH should has various useful travel rates in the Travel section shortly after the combat section. Other splatbooks like Frostburn will give you more detailed info for some specific terrains.
I've always done my maps on hex paper and usually set the size of a hex as the distance someone on a horse at a normal pace could travel in a day (as most people don't really walk for very long).I drive a quantum car- every time I look down at the speedometer, I get lost.

If a tree falls in the forest and the PCs aren't around to hear it... what do I roll to see how loud it is?
