Default Good gaming-oriented hobby shops in Chicago area

So I want to find, well, a good gaming-oriented hobby shop in the Chicago area. It must have a good selection of figures that I can paint. Can you give me some advice?

(Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I just made my best guess)

The two I am aware of are Games Plus in Mount Prospect ( http://www.games-plus.com/ ), and the Dice Dojo on Broadway ( http://chicagolandgames.com/ ). There was one in Evanston, but it folded.

Ditto to both of these. The folks at the Dice Dojo are great; if they don't have exactly what you're looking for, I'm sure they could order them special for you.

Gamer's Asylum closing was a shame. They had a great place.

Yeah, Games Plus. Dunno about others, but it's the main one I've used since my undergrad days. They tend to have plenty of figures for a variety of games (the only store I've been to that had Call of Cthulhu figures, for example) and a good selection of games - including some old, out of print, or indie games.

There's also a fairly new place, Fair Game, in Downer's Grove. They seem to mostly be focused on board games, but I want to say I've seen some RPG stuff there too. Might be worth a look if it's more convenient than Games Plus.

games plus is the platonic ideal of the gaming store. i can't recommend it highly enough. you can take the metra there from chicago if you don't have a car.

i haven't heard of fair game before, i'll check that place out.

From stuff I've seen online, I'm thinking of going to Black Sun Games. Yea/nay?

EDIT: Based on your recommendations, I'm probably going to Games Plus.

i went to fair game yesterday. it's almost entirely a board games store. they have a tiny section of d&d stuff and ccg stuff ... i bought some dice. the guy said they were going to try to carry minis soon but didn't know where they were going to put them, which made no sense because the store was using none of its space optimally (they were displaying all of their games on the walls facing outwards). tbh i have no idea how this store is paying their lease in any neighborhood, let alone downtown downers grove ...

Came in to say Games Plus. My only gripe with them is that their 3.5 collection anymore pretty much consists of the stuff nobody wants (10 copies of Dragons of Faerun? Really?). Otherwise, they're a terrific store.
