Remember that the top 5 subtypes move to the next round, so I think it is possible for your subtypes to make it. After that, there will be plenty of time for them to beat cold/incorporeal.

I'd honestly even be ok if they went so far as to have cold or something as a third subtype. I just shied away from air because it started seeming like insects instead of plants at that point. Tiny, crawling clovers that shapechange and have a cold breath weapon would be kinda epic.
