Preliminary Entry Posted
Ok, I posted the Nudibranchae on the contest thread. They're mostly complete and ready for commentary, but still have some minor things to work out. The main statistics, description, combat tactics, and backstory are up. I haven't posted some ancillary details, such as thier religion, livestock, equipment, and a nice picture I drew of them.
Yes, the back story starts out as the usual "A wizard did it." and proceeds to turn into a retooling of Exodus. This wasn't entirely planned. While I was originally planning a violent slave revolt, followed by a hasty escape through the Astral Plane, I eventually went with something a little different (and rather longer). You see, once I started writing it, I was trying to think of a good reason for a race bread specifially for slavery would revolt. Eventually I decided to us the ol' dues ex machina of divine inspiration. (This was a good thing as it got me thinking about thier religion, which I'd forgotten about.)
Which was when it hit me, here you have a slave race with a prophet seeking to free her people, just like Moses in Exodus. So I decided to embrace the idea and as I wrote the ending, I intentionally copied the structure of Exodus. Hooray for archetype myth! An interesting side effect of this is that I had already planned to have them enter the Astral Plane at some point in thier history (they had Gith as bonus language from the begining), but now it fits nicely into the mythology I constructed. Funny how things work out sometimes.
Anyhoo, please give it a look over and tell me what you think. Thanks in advance.Last edited by levi; 2007-03-05 at 05:16 PM.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Ah, a melding of D&D's two unliving creature types: constructs and undead. There's already alot of overlap between these two types, and the resulting style is just plain cool/creepy.
While I know there is only 1 entry/person, I intend to make three distinct varieteis of Graveforged constructs. Is this OK? after all, the Man'o'War entry technicaly contains two creatures.
The GraveForged Constructs grew out of a minor plot hook in DragonMarked, in the section on Cannith East. I made them world-specific, but I might change that, and just add specific eberron information as a separate paragraph. The Graveforged Constructs are also loosely based on MTG's Phyrexians, at least the undeady ones (phyrexians are pretty diverse).Last edited by Hyrael; 2007-03-05 at 09:17 PM.
My colors are Blue/Green. I value versitality, knowledge, evolution, and the nautral world. I have a deep fascination with living things, and a natural talent for adaptation. At my best, I am intuitive and adaptive. At my worst, I am isolated and unsympathetic. My symbol is the twisted tree, and my enemy is Red/Black.

Well, I suppose I'll be calling the Fergaast the winner. Have recieved no more votes since the above.
Hopefully a poll will be possible with the current competition.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
I am saddened that the Divine Spark of Inspiration wasn't voted for, but it's understandable. It was interesting, but not terribly unique.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
So the fergaast did well because he was sardonic and nightmarishly ugly?
Awesome.
Thanks for the votes Khantalas and Phoenix! I really appreciate it. Especially after a lousy week. (The cookies are in the mail.) And thanks to everyone for a good contest.
Regarding the current contest: Dang, are there already more entries for 'A Wizard Did It' than 'Champions of Good'?Last edited by palcosmo; 2007-03-09 at 12:09 AM. Reason: sense making

Anyone have any comments or suggestions for my entry into "A Wizard did it?" [#13] It's my first contest entry here, so I'd love to get some input back.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
I've got a specific request for advice/opinions about the Man o'War. Should it be a colonial entity, like a real man o'war, with an emergent intelligence and shared metabolism (as it's described now), or should the float actually be the command-and-control center of a single, unified, creature? If I did the latter, I'd take away the "homogeneous anatomy" Ex ability (i.e., the immunity to criticals). It does seem...weird (even in a magical universe) that the creature talks, manipulates, and propels itself using what is, essentially, a sack of fluid and gasses.
Thoughts?
Thanks much.Last edited by belboz; 2007-03-11 at 05:43 PM.

I've put my Lovecraft-monkey up on the AWDI contest.
I no longer actively read the forums, and probably won't respond to any PMs. I'm fine with people using my homebrew in anything, including fan-compilations and wikis, as long as you credit me.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Submitted a monster, having gotten inspiration for it just a few hours back. A cookie to whoever guesses which author's work the idea came from.
Hope I'm not too late. :P
