Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Well, I mean, what's the worst that could happen? There's no way that you could be more that one off, and it's not like someone is going to say:
"Well, I really like that race, but I think it should be +1 LA, not +2, so I'll vote for another guy."
And if it's unbalanced in a game, then just fix it. No biggie.
The only reason people fight about it is because they can. It's just so easily disputable. Anything like that, especially the irrelevant stuff, gets argued about.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
The fact is: Appropriate LA is hard to adjucdicate. Too much ends up with character too weak, no matter the extent of their abilities. Too little and everyone hates your character.
I think LA should come with great abilities, so that you won't get screwed that much. (If you don't follow the Savage creature template, that is)SpoilerStrongarm Warrior: An actually worthwhile Monkey Grip-focused PrC!

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Three more feats just added to mine... "Powerful Musk" is the one whose balance I am the least sure of... was originally going to make it a -5 penalty, and you can only take the feat once, but that seemed to powerful given that a lot of the effects are the same as negative levels that can't kill and never result in negative levels... then again it doesn't work on almost all undead (Personally I could see spraying a Vampire to good effect...), constructs, or anyone wearing a Necklace of Adaptation (an item which you will notice is also popular among those of my example characters who are wealthy enough to afford it).
Do people think "Volatile Musk" should take the radius to 30' rather than 25'?[Public Service Announcement]P.E.A.C.H stands for Please Examine And Critique Honestly[/Public Service Announcement]

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
I uh...I have an entry for this one...but I kind of have a question first...
I wanted to make a race that was dark, and a little spooky, and a bit over the top. And I succeeded perhaps ... a little too well. I didn't get too graphic with teh descriptions but they are still a pretty messed up race that uses equal doses of Jeffrey Dahmer, Kali, and the Borgias as inspiration.
So if thats okay with everyone I'll post away...Revised avatar by Trixie, New avvie by Crisis21!

If it is within the forum rules, I hardly think we can stop you... so go right ahead... doesn't sound SO much like the sort of thing I would TEND to vote for, but no reason you shouldn't post it.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Whichever... personally I think the first idea sounds much cooler...
BTW by "playability" I did NOT necessarily mean "as a PC"... since that was never one of the terms of this contest... elves and full-orcs would seem to fit this contest equally well for instance.Last edited by DracoDei; 2008-07-07 at 02:04 AM.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
a reasonably original touch...
well, I think many Orcs would qualify as that...
Ok, now I begin to see why you might consider this a risky selection of theme...
Personally I still want to see both the Mole Rats and these things... either could turn out memorable or lame... but I want to see what you do with both...[Public Service Announcement]P.E.A.C.H stands for Please Examine And Critique Honestly[/Public Service Announcement]

Once again, though I must obligatory start my rambling about inappropriate LA and other futilities...
Seven attacks! At LA +1! People are scared about TWF rogues, I sure won't bring one of those to my weekly game.

You should specify that "Crystal Edge" qualifies as both a natural and manufactured weapon for purposed of enchanting it (much like a monk's unarmed attack)...

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
His race makes good monsters, but not good player characters. At a certain point in the game, you can't eat the monsters. And most of the time, you don't want to. Seriously, zombies for lunch doesn't sound good.

Naked Mole Rat
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naked_mole_rat
About the ugliest mammal on the planet, next to Nancy Pelosi, with no pain receptors in their skin, practically cold-blooded, can live with almost no food and rare atmospheres, dig with their teeth, and they live in hives with a 'queen mole rat'. Really weird bunch.
Anyways, in a MUD I used to write for, there is a race called the 'Moloks' loosely based off of the mole rats. Strong and super-tough, but slow and stupid. Loved to work, and so though not that bright were up to civilization standards of most others simply because of their constant productivity.Last edited by The Vorpal Tribble; 2008-07-08 at 03:45 PM.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Someone from one (or more) of the games I play in was inspired to come up with a feat. Here is my tweaked version of it:
Improved Stench Resistance [Fighter, Monk]
You are a skunk, or adventure with one; you have dealt with a lot of spray in your time, and it turns out you CAN get used to that smell.
Prerequisites: ECL 3, Stench Resistance, Mepholk/Were-skunk or have gained at least two levels while adventuring with a Mepholk/Were-skunk in the party.
Benefits: You automatically succeed on fortitude saves due to the stench from the spray weapons of mepholk, were-skunks, skunks, and dire skunks. If you yourself are sprayed, you still take a reduced -1 [-2?] penalty to all attacks, saves, and skill checks for 2d4+6 minutes, and while you automatically save each round to take a partial action, you must still roll each round and beat the standard save DC by at least 5 in order to take your full action. You also gain a +1 bonus on saves to resist the negative effects of any other strong scents. This feat does not benefit you against spray effects that relate to getting spray in the eyes, nor any other spray effect that is based on any property of the spray other than scent.
You must roll fortitude saves to avoid penalties from the stench of any nearby spray. The penalty to attacks, saves, and skills if you are sprayed is -3, in addition to which you must save (Fortitude) each round to take any action, beating the DC by at least 5 in order to take your full action.
Normal: You must roll fortitude saves to avoid penalties from the stench of any nearby spray. The penalty to attacks, saves, and skills if you are sprayed is -3, in addition to which you must save (Fortitude) each round to take any action, beating the DC by at least 5 in order to take your full action.
Special: A fighter or Monk may take this feat as one of his bonus feats.
"Stench Resistance" is a feat I made up to serve as a stepping stone to this...basically +4 to Fortitude saves versus odors (like Disease Resistant, and Poison Resistant)...
Related Sidenote...: Accidently omitted the "10 +" part in the DC calculation for the Musk... have fixed this now...Last edited by DracoDei; 2008-07-08 at 09:59 PM.
