    Default Superbowl thread

Who do you think will win? Who do you want to win? Will you even watch the game?

I, for one, would be happy with either team winning, I dont have anything against either team. But if SF is to win, I have two specific desires for the way they win. I would love to see Kapaernik run for 150+ yards and give all those stupid, anti-running QBs (Im looking at you, Prisco) an aneurism. Either that, or have some injury occur in game and have Alex Smith come off the bench to take his team to the victory (and flip the bird at the coach who benched him).
But Im kind of thinking the Ray Lewis retirement tour, along with the continued development of Joe Flacco will carry the Ravens to the win.

I'm hoping for the Ravens to win.
Mainly because I can't stand the thought of all of the obnoxious 49ers fans that would spam my facebook about how great the 9ers are.

Also, I have a bit of a bet on that the Ravens will win, so that's another incentive.

I'm all set up for the Superbowl. I am going to have chicken wings and chips, salsa and dips, soda, and perhaps a sub sandwich. And I will be playing board games the entire time.

I don't really like the super-bowl itself, seeing as I recognize the achievements of most sports teams have no bearing on my life and do not find myself taking their wins or loses personally. But I love Superbowl commercials. I don't know why they can't be that good all year long. I always try to support my favorite commercials by buying their product and validating their decision to market such great commercials.

So each year I gather with friends, 'superbowl food', and a fun side task to do while the boring ball-throwing part is going on to celebrate the best commercials of the year.

No, as normally I have no idea either, as I have very little love for Football (I'm a diehard SF Giants fan, and all around baseball fan other than the Dodgers). That said, however, living only an hour north of one of the cities, I feel like I'm on the Bandwagon. And I would like to see both the major sports teams win championships in their seasons.

When you have to spend $500,000 up to $1,000,000 for a thirty second spot on the show, you better make sure you have something special for it. My biggest beef is that since I live in Canada, the dumb simalcast rule means we get boring old CTV ads instead of the cool american ones.

I hate the 49ers because [CENSORED] and then pull out the stick. I like the Ravens because they are the good counterparts of the evil Steelers.

Honestly, the thing that really galls me about the 49ers making it is that the Falcons should have beaten them. That game was almost identical in circumstances to the game with the Seahawks, with the important distinction being that my 'Hawks weren't lucky enough to have Matt Ryan screw up and fumble a snap in his own territory.

Since I dont particularly like or hate either team I am hoping for a 1 point game that goes back and forth the entire 4 quarters with spectacular saves, horrifying mistakes, and a nail biting finish as the team down by 1 nears field goal range in the final seconds.

Oh, and I have homemade chili to be turned into nachos, home made hot sauce my wings have been soaking in for over a day now, plenty of soda and chips to munch on, and a comfy chair all setup. Im ready for some football!

I was going to watch the game with my dad and grandpa, but there's been a death in the family and I won't be able to.

I'm an Oregonian, so I don't have much of a preference between the teams. I love SF as a city, but the Ravens are a much cooler mascot and I dig the Poe reference...

I'm not watching the game or the commercials, but family members are. And it sounds like the Ravens are currently (at 19:07 CST) murdering the 49ers (figuratively). I freely admit I'm not really paying attention to the background noise.

No one in my known family has any vested interest in either team winning unless they made bets on who would win; none of my family members are fans of either team.

$4 million now, for 30 seconds.

Edit: Did you just see that kickoff return!?!

Edit 2: And now the power went out. For such a facerolling, this game is rather eventful.

Watched the game in the company of a bunch of people who don't really know the game, and some of them were more interested in following the tweets about it, with people commenting on the commercials and stuff.
Was quite fun to hear, though.

I'm pleased with the result since I think that of the two players that have said (or at least hinted at) they're retiring after the game (ray Lewis and Randy Moss), I'm glad it was Lewis that ended on the high note.
can't stand Moss, and his comment earlier in the week that he was the greatest receiver in the history of the game just reeks of an over inflated ego and no connection with the real world.

Didn't see any commercials on account on watching the game on the BBC coverage in the UK, which is commercial free.

Got some good commentary on the game by Willie McGinest, though, who was in their studio.
And of course, Mike Carlson, who is awesome as always.. During the power cut, he came out with the comment that 'the people backstage told Beyonce not to use her hair dryer in the changing room' and that since the 9ers were so far behind at the power cut, they were living their own 'Zero Dark 30'..

I guess someone from the upstairs office had a long serious chat with the team owners during the blackout.

"Look, we're shoveling in millions per each minute of commercial time, we can't have people tuning out! Ravens, you have a commanding lead. Okay, okay, we're gonna let you win at the end, but for now, you have to make it close! Do you hear me, MAKE IT CLOSE!"

I have to say, I had a really good time watching it with my friends, many of who supported one team or another for indirect reasons (one friend rooted for the Ravens because they beat the Patriots, another wanted the 49ers to win to rub it in another friend's face because he'd been teasing her about the Giants for weeks and she's a big Giants fan, etc) while I was unaligned. As more of us came into the suite common room to watch we trolled them with that atrociously squicky GoDaddy commercial, and it was all great fun.
