    Question Magic trap creation question

    Ok so I want to make 2 different magic traps. The first will cast 2 second level spells, and second 3 second level spells. Both will have a caster level of five.

    As near as I can tell the first one should take 20 days time and cost me 400 Exp and the second 30 days time and 600 exp is this correct?

    This depends if they are one-shot traps, automatic reset traps, if the spells involved require costly material components, etc.

    You're asking the wrong crowd, I'm afraid. You are incapable of making any custom trap until your DM is in agreement as to what they will allow in the trap.
    When you and the player have agreed on what spells and other elements the trap contains, you can determine the cost of the raw materials for the trap and the CR of the trap.
    So don't ask us; ask your DM.

    Forgot to say but yes they are auto resetting, and yes I read the rules I just want to know if my calculation is correct.

    Auto resetting trap 1: Caster level 5 spell level 2 (2)

    [500gp(5x2)]2 = 10000gp
    [40 exp(5x2)]2 = 800 exp
    material components less than 1 gp

    Total 10000

    10000/500 = 20days

    Auto resetting trap 2: Caster level 5 spell level 2 (3)

    [500gp(5x2)]3 = 15000gp
    [40 exp(5x2)]2 = 1200 exp
    material components less than 1 gp

    Total 15000

    15000/500 = 30 days

    I assume you don't include the exp modifier otherwise the traps as listed make no sense being that the cr 3 acid arrow trap thats listed as 3000 gp and 240 exp would actually cost 123000 gp and take 246 days to make.

    Yes, your math seems correct for your traps.

    Following guidelines Acid Arrow trap would cost 500gp * 2 (spell level) * 3 (caster level) = 3000 gp (and 40 * 2 * 3 = 240 XP).

    Note that traps are actually rather cheap. For example if you had a trap of cure minor wounds it would cost you 500gp * 1/2 (spell level for item creation purpose) * 1 (caster level) = 250gp and 40 * 1/2 * 1 = 20 XP. And it would heal 1 HP per round. Without limits.
