    Default Help requested

I'm currently making a game system called DemiHuman, and I would like some help from the playground. In DemiHuman players play characters who are half-human, and I've decided that players should be given the freedom to decide for themselves what their non-human half allows them to do. So I was wondering if anybody knew of any systems that allowed for sort of free-form races, or just picking racial traits.

In addition to this I want stunts to be a big part of the system. So if anybody has any systems I should look at for stunting I'd gladly take a look.

Finally I also want to look in to a combo system, so if anybody knows any systems with a good combo system I'd be happy to take a look.

As always any and all help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance!

    1. I would suggest just use the base human to start with as it is a very good building block for any build. After that keep in mind for 3.5 any ability modifiers should equal 0 for non-LA races. As for a mathematical approach Pathfinder offered a point system in the Advanced Race Guide to doll out but even the developers admitted they didn't give races an equal share of points. http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/a...ceBuilder.html
If you want something more incremental yet dynamic such as unlocking stronger racial abilities I would look to how E6 campaigns handle feats.
    2. Skill tricks would definitely fit in this category of stunts but other wise just make new skill DC's for performing them. Everyone knows most skills need some love.

What do you mean by "stunts"? I know more than one definition for this.

How do you imagine a typical encounter/situation working? Could you describe a possible snippet of game play for us?

More to the point, do you intend for people to create their racial powers (custom power building) or just pick from a list to approximate what their race is?

If it is power creation, then you could use a point system similar to what the Tome Of Radiance is using for their Illuminations.

Rules-light freeform with an approval system would work as well. Basically let people pick X custom minor abilities. Give a few examples to set the intended power level, maybe an in-depth guide for gauging ability power, etc. An example of rules-light freeform that still has a PC creation system would be the Epic World forum WP.

If you just want to create races from lists of abilities, then any point system would work. Just make sure the costs are (roughly) on par with each other.

    Contact debihuman for irony.

Skilltricks are good stunts, I have a magitek roller blader who uses phychoreactive paint to tag that has a stunt combo system, let me know.

I was planning on the players choosing from a list of options for race. As for stunts I was thinking they would be things that would generally deal with enviroment. By this I mean stuff like setting fire to casks of wine, using the handle of your weapon to zipline down a rope, or using lightning magic to shock sea based marauders.

EDIT: I actually don't know what skill tricks are. Would anyone mind providing a link?

I managed to get some help with the broken forum and retrieved my old thread: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showt...lass-P-E-A-C-H

As for skilltricks, check https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?...070105a&page=5 it's pretty much what you had in mind.

So from what I understand skill tricks are skill checks that allow you to perform certain actions? If so that doesn't look half bad. Also your first post makes a lot more sense with that link.

For the cost of 2 skillpoints you buy up to 1 minor feat per level which requires a skill check to use, aka a skill trick.

Okay, then I think I'm going to use a simpler, more freeform, version of that. Thanks for the help Hanuman!
