Default The Cathedral of Ash [OOC]

In the northern lands, where perpetual snow falls, once existed a great kingdom.
The Kingdom of Neige controlled lands so vast it were almost a continent unto itself,
filled with valuable ores and strong trees. The rich and prosperous people of the Neige kingdom
enjoyed luxuries scarcely imagined, but not everything was so clean as the snow that fell.

The legend says that a poor child from a small village called Amadou, tired of seeing those
he loved die from the cold or from hunger while the rich lived in happiness, sought a way to end
death itself. In time, he took up residence in the Grand Cathedral - a holy building made
from the most expensive materials, the rich no doubt hoping it would buy them favour with the gods.
When this poor child, now a grown man with incredible arcane power, began to search for answers within the Cathedral,
a great plague spread out. Throughout the kingdom of Neige, the dead stopped staying dead
and great horrors began stalking the land.

To this day, as if the very purity of the Cathedral has been corrupted, for a mile
in every direction, the snow that always falls had instead become ash.

To prevent the curse from spreading south, the many kingdoms of those lands erected a great wall of ice and forbade anyone or anything from the north to travel past it. Many from Neige had travelled to the wall and tried to escape the plague but none were allowed, rich or poor, and most simply died there. The sight of the northern lands from atop the wall is often shown to aspiring mages and kings, for there is nothing but a sea of frozen corpses. Ever since then, for hundreds of years, the many leaders of the lands south of Neige have tried to free the frozen land from its curse. While some try out of kindness, most do it out of desire. Whoever ends the curse in Neige would be able to lay claim on all of its lands and, with it, all of the resources there.

Of course entering the land of Neige is a one way trip unless the curse is successfully broken, so these kings and lords send others in their place. Which is where you come in. Recruited by one of these lords, you are to travel north and try to free Neige from its curse. Do so and the lord will grant each of you vast lands. Of course, each of you are famous in your own right and so the lord seeking your service would not do so lightly - there is a man, blind and red of hair, who you are to escort to Neige. As many of you would know there is a legend even older than the Fate of Neige, telling of a blind person with red hair, neither man nor God, that can perform miracles. Somehow, the lord that recruited you believes this man can break the curse in Neige. It would seem desperation has set in, but others are no less desperate so you must be vigilant. This blind man needs to be escorted to Neige and, when inside, you must help him in any way he needs - but for now, just getting him there safely will be the task at hand.

When the game begins, you will have already been travelling for a week. The blind man has said little, his hooded cloak obscuring his face as he walks silently onwards, and nothing important has happened at all. It has almost been pleasant and, in another day, you will reach the town of Stonedale - the first town outside of your employer's land. Whether you decide it's safe to stay there or instead send a small group in to purchase supplies and move on, is up to you.
"Don't think of it as dying," said Death,
"Just think of it as leaving early to avoid the rush."

Since red is already taken I guess I'll go with vermilion.

Edit: @Clay: Can I assume that this lord sending us is whoever my character's family has sworn fealty to?

Sorry, got sidetracked and forgot to post over the weekend. I'll take this colour please.

    Edit: Sigismund Otto

Clay, would it be possible for you to pm me the battlemaster level 3 feature? If you'd rather not, I guess I can just retool as a champion instead.

Well, I waited long enough. There's six of you here so that'll do. I'll have the IC thread up in a little while. I would've had it up yesterday but it was my sister's birthday.

Does anyone know a good map generator? I can probably make it work with a spreadsheet, but an actual map would be better in the long run.

Maptools is excellent for map creation; both me and my DM of my 4e X-Com game use it.

    An example: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1...JD1AZF7ng/edit

Also are we allowed to roll for our HP? If not and we're just using the progression stated in the book (max at 1st level, dice average + 0.5 per level beyond the first), there's certain characters whose totals I'm not sure how to explain.

Now that is pretty cool. :O

I'm fine with either method, although I'm pretty sure nobody rolled their health except Kornaki and Chambers. I could be missing some people, though.

Well, I've downloaded MapTools. I'm pretty sure I grabbed the right version. Just need to figure out how to use it is all. Can't be that hard to put trees and stuff in.

    Trying them here instead:

    Initiative
    (1d20+1)[3]

Hmm, will insulting their manhood cause them to run away?

Well, I think I did it right. If you click on any of the tokens already on there, clicking on it should highlight the comment telling you their number. The blue rectangle is the starting area and the hooded guy is, obviously, the hooded guy you're escorting. The token with the red outline is the leader of the bandits.

    Well, here goes

There aren't any counters for us that I can see, so I'm assuming that I'm either in front of BM or the square just to the left, as per my previous post.

Place your own tokens. You need to put your details in the combat tracker, too.

    Oh ok.

Edit: Had a question but it'll be easier to add myself on the tracker (atm it refuses to load for no reason ) and correct it if I'm wrong, I guess.

Well I tried uploading an image of a token and apparently it didn't like that. Anyone who gets it to work, would you mind making a token for me? Anything that's a girl with red hair or just some image of fire or a magical orb will work for me.

Pretty much. If you have a better suggestion I'm certainly open to alternatives. I kinda like it, though, since you can add stuff in the comments, like if they're poisoned, charmed, dead or have some kind of magical buff.

Trying to add a token to a google drawing from this tablet has been...frustrating

Nevermind I'm about 50% of the way there.

Edit: Done, with a crappy quality image but it's all I can do for now.

Sorry for complaining - I blame google 90%, and this bloated tablet 10% for my woes.
