    Default Pirate Music Needed

I'm running a pirate-/nautical-themed campaign, but I find myself woefully lacking in piratey background music. Pirates of the Caribbean is a little too trite and Black Sails sounds more like a western when you listen to it by itself. Alestorm is a little too intense a lot of the time. Can anyone recommend some soundtracks and the like that I can use to enhance my game?

I've had this song stuck in my head for a few years now, namely because a friend would sing it whenever he felt 'piratey' and felt 'piratey' more than any single man has a right to.

Try finding the soundtrack from Sid Meier's Pirates?

The Master&Commander soundtrack has some good adventures on the high seas - vibe stuff, and honestly, if you search "pirate battle music" on Youtube, that'll get one or two playlists of mixed stuff and some fast paced music as well.

The soundtrack to Assassin's creed 4: Black flag could probably work. It should be available on youtube and spotify.

It also has tavern songs and sea shanties.

    Barrett's Privateers
    The Devil's Son
    Old Maui
    15 men on a dead man's chest
    Victory
    I am the Pirate King
    Drunken Sailor
    Blow the Man Down
    Friggin' in the Riggin'
(or if you prefer you can look up the original version "The Good Ship Venus")
And just for good measure The Pirate Song

I think, therefore I get really, really annoyed at people who won't.

I've found the music from The Secret of Monkey Island series to be lighthearted good pirate music.

The shanties are fantastic. I honestly spent most of the time sailing around to get collectibles simply to listen to the shanties. My favorite is probably Lowlands Away.

I once ran a very short lived pirate game. Lets see what few songs I gathered (Note, we ran by a very "lighthearted high adventure" theme, a bit like the Pirates of the Caribbeans I guess:

    - I found the Two Steps from Hell's "Nemesis" album great for this theme. Sky Titans for example was the campaign's music, and opened every session. Clash of Empires was meant for battles between ships and the like

The "Dynasty" Album also has some interesting gems such as "The Brave and mighty".

I'd also suggest checking the "All drums go to hell" Album for anything that is very fast and very tense. Also good for "tribal music". Excellent score, I used some stuff for battles, for pursuits, prison escapes and more. Puts people on edge.

    Other various themes:
Some soothing music (This for exploring underwater)
    From the witcher (Tavern music)
    Storm music (Starts gentle)
British grenadier anthem (For if you want to put an English like colonial Imperialistic force)

    Good luck to you!

    1. Special projects:
Campaign logs archive, Campaign planning log, Tactical mass combat Homebrew, A unique monsters compendium.
    2. My campaign logs:
Three from a GM's POV, One from a player's POV. Very detailed, including design and GMing discussions.
    3. Various roleplay and real life musings and anecdotes:
For those interested, from serious to funny!

    Thanks for reading!

Heroes of Might and Magic 4 had a really good soundtrack, which was intended to be looped, so you might find this piece useful.

Aside from that, another classic game might have quite a few gems in it to plunder.

There was also The Crimson Pirate movie with a very catchy theme.

By random-walking YouTube, I stumbled upon this.

Lots of excellent music here! I've got a pretty good start now. Thanks everyone, keep 'em coming!

I've gotten some Nox Arcana and Adrian Von Ziegler in addition to some of the tracks mentioned here, which kind of helps fill out some of the slower parts and general background music.

Oddly, I have a bit of a trouble, to find more pirate-appropriate music, but I thought I'd at least drop those three here:

Neverending story (no, not the main song by Limahl)

    Vision of Escaflowne

    Macross Frontier

Those themes are a bit at odd with earlier propositions, but I thought you might sometimes need some music evoking the sensations of having sails full of wind and a boundless sea ahead.

Also irrelevant: I somehow can't think about pirates without those guys getting all over my mind.

edit: Now I have good ideas - my memory sure should learn how to be timely. Anyway, there was this old cartoon called Mysterous Cities of Gold and the soundtrack has some pretty impressive pieces in it.

    As a pirate myself....

    Dread Crew Oddwood

The whole Rogue's Gallery compilation, including Son of Rogues Gallery. Some of the music is very modern, up to and including techno, but you'll find overlapping songs with most other things people have listed up here (the techno version of Old Maui is suprisingly good).

The nautical themed songs from Flogging Molly, such as Tobacco Island and Queen Anne's Revenge.

    The Jolly Rogers

And just for some fun, here's a list of 8tracks pirate-based playlists.
    http://8tracks.com/explore/pirate

    Anything from Muppet Treasure Island.

    Donkey Riding, a traditional song.

Fifteen men on a dead man's chest.

    Hmm.
I'm sure I could think of more.....

Some of the pieces from Little Mermaid....

The Dread Crew of Oddwood has a fair bit, my favorite being Meat, Bread and Wine.
I consider myself an author first, a GM second and a player third.

The three skill-sets are only tangentially related.
