Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Took me a while, so for the benefit of other people as thick as myself:
The reason Noriko not wearing makeup is significant is because Verres Sr. would therefore regard Noriko being enchanted as in no way suspicious.
Added:I just realized that I have no idea when Tedd learned that his mother is a monster hunter. Nevermind -- Pandora mentioned it to him.
Added due to update: Okay, grand-daughter of Arthur Arthur. Also, "pressure release chopsticks."

So super-Luke's costume has a pec-hole? I thought it was just an oval of a lighter shade than the rest.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Infamous? Power Girl's costume is awesome!
And I'm not just saying that because it shows skin. You could close the window, and give it legs, and it would still be awesome. I'm also not just saying that because it's form-fitting spandex. You could give it a looser fit, and it would still be awesome.
I've for quite some time though it would look cool to switch the white part out with something a little military-dress-uniform inspired.
Spoiler: Examples
Maybe not as intricate or visually busy as those. The relatively plain, clean white really helps the blue gloves and blue-or-red belt pop.
And, looking at some images, what's up with people messing with her cape design? It needs to be a red cape on one shoulder, with a gold broach-thing and yellow braided chord. Don't spread the cape to both shoulders, add a golden shoulder pad, or remove the broach!
Actually, this one with pants (tucked into the boots, of course) would be a good example of what a toned-down Power Girl costume could look like... if they hadn't left out the belt! The belt is important!

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
I think cargo pants (in white) would look great with this. But yeah, the boob window is silly.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
I mean power girl is like a kryptonian so her skin is probably more protective than any armor we could possibly make. and she is stronger and faster than anyone you know by a lot. she can tank ice attacks that could leave you dead, she is not going to notice a little coldness.
Power Girl can wear whatever the heck she want. there is nothing society can do to stop her, or make her change her mind. and whats Superman going to do about it, act parental at her? he isn't her dad. that and the costume is probably far less durable than herself, so..... its not going to make much difference if/when she fights someone who burns the fabric away. honestly she probably just saving on textiles given what she does and has like a million other costumes just like it because they keep getting torn up or destroyed.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
I mean, if I had a superman package set of powers with a superhero bod, I'd be going shirtless and in short pants.
If you got it, flaunt it.
Nobody had a problem with(comics) Starfire walking around in what was basically a stripper's outfit until the artists started using it for fanservice. It was perfectly fine back when that was just how she dressed and they go out of their way to draw her in sexy poses.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Not what I was referring to.
Most people who complain about sexism in comics don't have complaints about early Starfire. Early Starfire it was just a costume, they didn't have her bending in unnatural positions to show off or anything like that. Probably helped by the fact that male tamaraneans dress just as skimpily.
It's only in the last couple of decades that they've been playing her chosen manner of dress for fanservice.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
I somehow doubt there's ever actually been a time when comics existed and no girls read them.
A time when most or all of the executives behind comics tuned out everything girls said about them on the basis that they were girls, sure. (That was last Thursday.)Orth Plays: Currently Baldur's Gate II

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Case in point, in the 40s and 50s Timely comics(now Marvel's) Romance comics, marketed towards women, were usually more popular than their superhero comics(some exceptions aside, Captain America comics were rather popular during the War for obvious reasons.)
It's really freakin' weird comparing a modern Patsy Walker comic to her original run.
Patsy in the 40s: Young woman involved in various mundane romantic conflicts.
Patsy Now: Hellcat, superhero and love interest to The Son of Satan.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Aren't cargo pants a military thing? I've never had trouble moving in them. But you may be right about the aesthetics, I think it would look good but I wouldn't know until I've seen it. I just think it would be more practical to have a bunch of pockets, and her design is top heavy so I thought it would balance that a little bit.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
I'm just happy Dan got the koala's double-thumbs right. It really bugged me that the koala-themed aberration at the mall had just one thumb per hand. What's the point of turning yourself into a were-koala if you don't wind up with the species one good trait?

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Koala can only eat one particular species of eucalyptus because that's the one they're immunized against. Other eucalyptus would kill them.
Also, while the drawbacks of such a limited diet are obvious, it's not without its advantages: koala being full of eucalyptus poison protects them from parasites and predators.Hark! An avatar drawn by Kate Beaton!

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
It kind of makes sense. In that she's trying to run two bodies at the same time off of one brain. But it kind of doesn't make sense, in that you could listen to a book on tape while folding clothes. And you wouldn't have that much trouble with either.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Folding laundry and listening to a book are using different sensory receptors, though. She's using the same bits of her brain to process the words, and see how a shirt folds properly. She's having the kind of difficulty you'd have trying to do it with just the one body.
