Missing Character Archetypes, continued
I asked the question "What archetype do you feel like lacks support" on the 5e forums. I got some very interesting answers, and for us pro-brew, most of these problems have been solved.
What I'd like to do is make a collection of links, that provide the content people are missing. You can call it a Most Wanted list, if you like :)
Digimike
- Brawler
- 3.5 Ninja conversion
- 3.5 Priest conversion
- Elemental Pet-Mage
- Trapper
Ventruenox
- Weapon Feats
Naanomi
- Warlock pacts and patrons
QuickLyRaiNbow
- Improved Intelligence rules
- Non-caster Int secondary class.
Yunru
- Lazy Warlord
MisterWhisper
- A fighter duelist subclass
- A fighting style for thrown weapons
- A specific weapon specialist
MoG
- Blood Mage. Closest you could get is some kind of Warding Bond use with Heavy Armor Master. Life Transference kinda does this, but there's nothing that synergizes with it (and necromancers do it worse).
- A Transmutation Warrior that enchants his weapons and gear with special buffs. The Eldritch Knight can kinda do this, but most of the EK's strengths are in defense.
- A Warrior that uses both Dexterity and Strength.
Tharkun
Karnitis
- Con-based Sorcerer conversion
- Elementalist Base Class
Spiritchaser
- Melee Controller
- Arcane Half-Caster
TyGuy
- Anti-Mage
- Dual-Wield Berserker
LtPowers
- A religion-themed bard
- A pugilist
- A shaman
- A warlord
- A friend-to-all-animals
- Luck-domain cleric.
- Maybe even racial cleric domains.
Anderlith
- Factotum (but there is no real need for it)
- Warlord
- Divine Rogue (as of yet we have no assassins of god, either as a Cleric option or Rogue option)
- Ranger
- The Old D&D Next Sorcerer (this was a fantastic class & had a really cool idea, maybe they could call it “Binder” if it didn’t step too much on its toes)
Kyutaru
- Mutant/Superhero
DjReynolds
- Charisma Riders for Fighter
- Str+Dex Class
Jerrykhor
- Hit Dice / HP as an offensive resource
Witty Username
- Master Poisoner. I want to use poisoned blades gosh darn-it.
- There are alot of classes in 3.X so their are bound to be a few darkhorses for everyone that played that.
- Is the Shadow Weave still a thing at all? I miss shadow adept, but it wasn't that different from being an illusionist.
Daithi
- A witch and her coven in good, neutral, and evil varieties.
- City-based druid.
MjolnirBear
- Storm Druid
- Int-based non-caster
- Binder/Spiritualist
ShrikeTalon
- Warlord
- Binder
- Monster
- Psion
- Divine Rogue
- Martial Options
Spoiler1) Warlord. Martial character with a huge list of maneuvers, martial dice which increase with levels to spend on those maneuvers, and synergy with Intelligence (tactics and positioning), Wisdom (finding weaknesses/foiling enemies), and Charisma (rallying your team to push beyond their limits).
2) Summoner/Binder. 5e is really, really weird about conjuring monsters, declaring it way too powerful for 1st and 2nd level spells to conjure a beastie, but perfectly fine to summon twelve panthers with a 3rd level spell. A "Me and My Monster" class would be lovely. Speaking of....
3) Monster. Kyutaru talked about a mutant/superhero, but I think this would be better pushed in a different direction, a build-your-own-beast class to represent heroes who are monsters. Make it invocation focused like the warlock, but instead of centering around spells, it's about supernatural abilities. Want a werewolf character? Go with the Transformation subclass and pick up natural attacks, regeneration, and athleticism for your transformation. Want a medusa? Pick up the invocation that allows you to daze with a gaze, then increase its power to stun, then petrify. Want a vampire? Undead subclass (watch out for the penalties that come with it!) + mist form + health drain invocations.
4) Psion. They're working on that. Slowly.
5) Divine rogue, city ranger, beastrider ranger, beastrider barbarian, grappling/wrestling barbarian, psionic barbarian (rage that breaks reality), psionic fighter, strength based monks, intelligence monks, charismatic monks, anything but DEX/WIS monk. Alternate warlock pacts (Pact of the Mask, Pact of the Brand, Pact of the Blood, etc) that focus on transformation, possession, monstrosity, etc.
6) Martial options beyond GWM, Polearm Mastery, and Crossbow mastery. It's been years. Why is there still no mechanical difference between an axe and a sword?
There should be a Sword Mastery, Axe Mastery, Impact Mastery, Throwing Weapon Mastery, Bow Mastery, Dagger Mastery, Simple Weapon Mastery, etc. Give us a reason to care about something that isn't a polearm, greatsword, or hand crossbow.

Re: Missing Character Archetypes, continued
Lazy warlord: Are we talking subclass?
Dex + Str warrior: Any particular flavor? A subclass that gets both to weapon attacks and/or damage would go a long way, and adding some dex to heavy armor AC or swapping around str/dex saves
Weapon feats: Specific weapons or weapon categories?
Warlock Pact/Patron: I'm still dying for a good Giant/Ordning patron. Pact of the cauldron/vessel/chalice has a nice ring to it, could play up the witch flavor.
Thrown Style: I've often seen the idea of a bouncing throw brought up, going around cover or hitting other targets on a hit (or miss) for exampleLast edited by Kane0; 2019-05-23 at 08:27 PM.

Re: Missing Character Archetypes, continued
For the thrown weapon specialist, that can be done really well as a Rogue Scout. The extra mobility means that the Scout can effectively Disengage while keeping their Bonus Action, which provides them additional movement or a Bonus Action attack. You don't have to worry about the fact that you can't throw more than 2 weapons in 5e, because the Rogue never gets Extra Attack.
For early levels, you just keep a dagger in both hands and only ever throw your second weapon on a miss. This effectively gives you a feature of "Once per combat, you can spend your Bonus Action to attack after missing an attack", which is very similar to the Rogue's capstone. Once the Rogue can get Dual Wielder, he can throw both daggers every single turn. With Sneak Attack, you don't really even need the Fighter's Two Weapon Fighting feature.
Another odd option is the Horizon Walker with a shield. Since they enhance an attack with a Bonus Action, they can afford to not use TWF when throwing weapons. As a result, they suffer less than most when it comes to the loss of attacks than most.
Lastly, the Ancestral Guardian Barbarian does well as a ranged attacker, because its primary feature doesn't require a melee attack and incentivizes running away from the target. You could throw handaxes or javelins each turn and hide behind your team, and make a single enemy unable to effectively participate in combat.
The reason I bring these up is that it's important to know why a throwing weapon specialist needs to be made when these options are available. Most people assume throwing weapons don't have support, but it's really about not having much support. If there was a throwing weapon specialist, it should provide something that is more specialized and synergistic than what we already can do.Last edited by Man_Over_Game; 2019-05-24 at 11:05 AM.

You can check the original discussion here. I deliberately listed the requests under its user, so you can easily find the post in the other thread.

Re: Missing Character Archetypes, continued
For Warlock Pacts and Patrons, Con-Based Sorcerer, A Friend-to-all-animals, Storm Druid, there's a number of solutions in my Prestige Options link.
Warlocks:
Using Wisdom for Archfey or Hexblade instead of Charisma.
Using Constitution for the Undying Patron instead of Charisma.
Druids:
Using Charisma for Shepherds instead of Wisdom.
Sorcerer:
Using Wisdom instead of Charisma.
Each Option has a series of rules that prevent unbalanced multiclassing. For example, the Wisdom Sorcerer cannot multiclass with Clerics or Druids, in order to cut down on the number of gained armor proficiencies, combined with the synergy of those classes' spells with the Sorcerer's Metamagic.Last edited by Man_Over_Game; 2019-05-30 at 04:23 PM.

Re: Missing Character Archetypes, continued
Two thing’s
Magical items/feats to enhance unarmed strikes (the LEAST boosted attack in all of D&D)
Classified weapons and expanded weapon proficiency’s
Too many different weapons are ignored or shoved into different categories. An example is the nunchuck, classified as a simple club(caveman style) however it’s construction alone, both real and in-game, would have it classified as a flail since it requires martial training just to keep from injuring yourself when wielding it. See YouTube fails. Sword master and similar feats are sorely needed.
And FIX THE DOUBLE WEAPONS, the extra attack on a bonus action is not worth the action economyLast edited by Ogrillian; 2019-06-01 at 07:45 AM.
