Jeph's opinion of HR and/or hiring law would certainly be more poignant if he hadn't been self-employed for ~16 years.

I still am not sure why the author feels that high school is so much worse than all the things that follow it. I suspect it's an insincere attempt at increasing appeal to readers who are still in school.

I dont remember the cops are bad arc. I remember the two cops hot boxing their way back to the station with the vespa avenger, and roko herself being really bad at her job as corpse witch kept running circles around her. The ex con one is why I said this, because it seems like her main purpose now is being jephs mouthpiece from trans awareness due to her body issues, to ex con rights, to hiring and firing laws in america.

The Renee adventures remind me of this: Don’t Move – The Jenkins (wordpress.com)

I thought the last page was OK, we have a problem, we have a framing for it, and the ex-cop is looking for a legalistic approach. She also explains her feelings on the subject, and we have a modicum of drama, as well as a final joke that compounds as a source of frustration for Roko. To tell the truth, I found it uncharacteristically well-written.

The comic itself as a stand alone isnt bad, its more of a "here we go again" reaction on my part as the comic tends to drift into these soapbox social justice arcs from time to time.

Oh, I totally can see that. For me however much of the problem with social stories in QC is how they are of bad quality, too shallow to be relevant on an intellectual level and too badly narrated to be enjoyable.

Specifically, Roko quit the police because she realised that May was scared to talk to her, on account that cops are corrupt and would happily send May back to jail forever just for back-talking. There's the whole "not all cops" discussion between her and O'Malley, which comes after seeing Dale hide under the counter rather than let a cop see his face while just in the vicinity of back-talking occurring.

About the surrounding comment Brun made about having never been exposed to raisins on account of her poverty growing up, with Clinton then criticizing himself as showing privilege by assuming that someone has eaten raisins before.

I don't think we've seen any evidence of this derision for these qualities from Jeph. He seems systematically incapable of them, but he's supported and done crossovers with other webcomic makers who run the gamut from masters of the complex and delicate plot and messaging to masters of anvil-fu (or, in the case of Randy Milholland, both).

Clinton may want to turn down the brightness settings on his phone (assuming one can do that; I've never tried myself, being somewhat new to smartphone ownership). The shadow behind his head is akin to that caused by a stage light. He'll burn out his retinas in a week if he's not careful.

You wouldn't believe how long it took me to realise, "Why are we looking at Claire in the bath? She's had nothing to do with this arc for weeks" and then go "OH it's Aurelia, that makes more sense". I by "realise" I mean, "someone on Reddit had to point it out".

Slight fudge with the art, too - the phone is square, and the light being projected is definitively round. Unless he's turned on the camera light (do smartphones even have front-facing camera lights? I've never checked mine to find out) and is staring into an LED.

And I was just about to go off an a rant about librarian Claire risking damaging a book by reading in the bath.

While you'd expect a bit of elongation unless he happens to be holding the phone such that the visible screen is square... unless it's a laser, light gets cast in roundish shapes on account of spreading out from the source in a sphere. Really the only weird bit is how firm the shadow boundary is, but I'm not about to expect our artist to suddenly start trying to dynamically light his scenes

I wonder how small a-list they're thinking? Tai expressly doesn't have any friends that she doesn't already share with Dora - she complained as much to Marten, and it's not like she's going to invite a bunch of her old f***-buddies to her wedding. Or so one would hope. That she might invite independently there's... Momo?

So two sets of parents, Marten +1, Faye +1, the four/five people who work in the coffee shop and their +1's... Sven (+1?).... Maybe Jim and Veronica just for laughs? Plus Skullmaster, obviously. That's pretty much the entire main cast and some of the better B-List; Apart from the C-list like Clinton, Brun and Renee, does Dora even know anybody else? How much smaller than 30 people are they thinking?

Dora has a least one Aunt and consequently may have cousins, also I believe her grandfather was referenced at one point and so that's probably another two people. We know nothing of Tai's extended family. It doesn't take much for family members and their +1s to hit twenty.

Current Coffee of Doom employees: Penelope (+Wil), Cosette (+Steve), Dale (+Marigold), Hannelore (+1 unknown, though possibly Winslow), Emily (+1 dangerously unknown). That's ten.

Friends definitely being invited: Marten (+Claire), Faye (+Bubbles)

Possible invites: Raven (+1 unknown), Momo (+unknown), Pintsize (probably without a +1)

The guest list is definitely aided by the coupling up of a huge number of Dora's employees and her and Tai's friends.

Noteworthy fact: the big expense attached to additional wedding invites is paying for a highly overpriced dinner for each person. AIs do not eat, which ought to allow them to invite a larger pool of people assuming some of them are AIs.

Also, I kind of feel like Emily will bring Yay Newfriend as her +1 and the whole wedding will get comped as a consequence.

is there a pre-wedding party in the US?

in Germany there is the „Polterabend“ (Rumble Night) a few weeks before the actual wedding.
Traditionally no one is invited to this party, it’s a big informal BBQ style event the date of which which is announced.

I mean, there is the rehearsal dinner which i think is just immediate family, and of course the bachelor/ette parties. Thats about it for traditional pre wedding parties.
