I now wonder if May, having lost the thing that made people find her sympathetic in spite some of her other aspects, loses some friends at least temporarily.

Faye didnt lose anybody, despite no longer being so mentally scarred from her dads suicide she had a ton of issues. Including being a violent drunk who says mean things all the time. I figure there will be some teething pains as she adjusts to her new body and they adjust to some new behavior.

I kind of hope May stays as the shallow, wacky-fun character. Not to say that she can't have development or anything, but there's enough angst and drama going on for everyone between Claire/Martens future prospects, Tai/Dora's wedding, Elliot/Clinton/Brun's romantic endeavours - it's nice to have one character around who just wants to screw around and her personal baggage is purely comedic/easily solved with grotesque internet porn.

Besides, I like seeing her spar with Sven and the two of them being cool with it, without being lovey-dovey and afraid to accidentally offend each other.

And just imagine the sort of crazy redneck songs you could get out of having a sassy robot-girlfriend? This is a goldmine of inspiration, I tell ya!

I wasn't so much expressing a hope for where the story takes this, but rather trying to outguess the author as to which after school special element he's going to try to include next.

Since some of her difficulties are gone, I expect her to get many new friends.

Unless she becomes so obnoxious and blindly full of herself that she estranges herself from her old friends. Something of a reverse of what Winslow did with her when he got a body, except it's so unpleasant that they don't even try to correct her and leave her alone for good.

But I don't expect that to happen. She'll probably be in a better mood and much more bearable, plus she stops being a financial liability.

I fully expect that she will go overboard, be outrageous and upset people for a little while, that's just who May is - it's just a matter of whether or not she learns humility by having some devastating small-print clause pointed out by her parole officer, or by getting obliterated by Crushbot and having to learn to be more careful when his ironically-too-late insurance pays out and she has to look after her NEW new body a little better.

About small print... seeing May's body literally crash and burn, I guess that, however creepy, Roko's anti-self-harm system may not be that bad an idea.

Also, the way orifices are mentioned as novelties puts a dent in my idea that AIs were born as highly evolved sex dolls.

AIs were created - a at least to a significant part - by Hannelore's dad, Dr. Ellicote-Chase, and it was he who also developed a lot of stuff that went into building their chassis such as their 'skin' and the prosthesis that went on to become Clinton's hand.

I find it hard to imagine that he, of all people, would have been concerned about robots being able to bone down which is why early chassis look like Pintsize and Punchbot - the orifices came later, probably at the request of actual AIs who wondered if they were missing out.

Then again, he did build Hannelore a Robot Practice-Boyfriend at one point, and I don't remember if that was "fully functional" either so he may have included 'everything' just out of innocent perfectionism....

I actually had thought about robots as sex dolls because of a phone conversation he'd had with Hannelore. https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1506

I can see the resemblance. I'd say that May looks a bit more like Dora as her nose is a more rounded shape... Although Dora and Emily look alike anyway so it's not much of a difference.

Also; I wonder which way we're about to go with Roko. She looks distressed - is that due to the mental image of May's boobs being used as their company's spokespeople? Or is it because she has dysmorphia and is not only back in the place where her first trauma was revealed, but is also watching May quite happily and easily adapt to a new body like she couldn't? This could get messy, and not in a way involving watermelons.

OK, I hadn't noticed that it started the previous page. Probably not attraction to May (I thought it had been triggered by her mentioning uncovering her breasts).

This leads to a question, do robots even care about how attractive a chassis is? We have seen them working out their own, but checking out others? I remember comments about Bubble's butt, but I think they came from humans.

May apparently does, as she requested a conventionally attractive physique. Everyone else seems to have their own opinion of what they like - Roko wanted to look like herself apparently regardless of whatever improvements she could have had, and the Futurama-esque guy with a mohawk that asked for a spray from Sam presumably asked to look that way?

Although Momo once referred to Bubbles as "My Queen" with similarly starry-eyes. Maybe AI's just like tall, buff girls in general?

    .
Jeb commented a while ago that he noticed that his characters were starting to look more alike. Dora and Emily are a classic example. When each is seen alone it can be hard to distinguish except by dialog.

I have to admit, if I had bought something comparatively minor like a car or computer and it was causing me to develop mental health issues, I would probably have gone back to the store and asked for a consult long before Roko finally wandered in by coincidence and bumped into a licensed AI counsellor, therapist and/or motivational speaker. Obviously it's not a sudden and immediate cure-all to her problems, but Lemon is RIGHT THERE and has been all along!

...Then again, Lemon and Melon are of the same 'family' so perhaps I can understand her reluctance....

I can understand her reluctance, Lemon acts like a caricature of the sort of therapist who tries to fit everything that everyone experiences into a tiny little model of how people work, and won't take "you're mistaken" as an answer.

I think she thinks that this is either 1) something she just has to adapt to, or 2) emotionally thinks that the solution is to get her old body back (despite intellectually knowing that isn't possible).

Just in general, people spend entirely too long suffering with emotional and mental health issues before seeking treatment. With both my TBI and my father's Vietnam PTSD, we both tried a steady diet of alcohol and 'this is fine'-ism for entirely too long before letting the professionals look under the hood, so to speak.

"Ignore it and hope it goes away" is a fairly reliable strategy but only up until the point that it isn't. I'm not faulting Roko - if anything, I hope Jeph makes more of it and contrasts it to May's recent success. Roko's body isn't just "her body", it's *HER* and the idea of slipping in and out of it is alien, whereas for May it's entirely the opposite.

The funny thing is, i dont think roko had any problems being WITHOUT a body as I dont recall her freaking out about being in a sever talking to lemon or whoever about the accident and what it would mean. Its just being in a body that isnt her that triggers it. Its not that crazy of a thing either. There are all sorts of conditions that can have very specific triggers that do and dont set them off even though thinking on it logically you might think it would.
