Default Potential Cheese with Fire Storm

For those who don't know, fire storm is 1d6 per caster level (max 20) to all within one 10x10x10 cube/2 levels. However, if a creature was, say, 10 feet wide, but 40 feet long would a fire storm targeted all along the length of his body deal 80d6 damage? I smell broken goodness!

To expand upon Solo's response, the big creature is still only one creature. The spell deals its damage to each creature in the area of effect, not to each square.

It would actually make more sense your way -- the big dude's absorbing more firestorm than a halfling would, and so should logically take more damage -- but that's the way it works. Same with any AoE spell.

Yep. If that where the case, it would deal much less damage to tiny or minute critters.

No, because they're still suffering the full effects of being stuck in an area shot through with magical flames.

Goose/Gander situation. If one takes more damage, then the other should (by all rights) take less. Or at least get a bonus to saves.

Once you open that door, things get really messy.

A bonus to the saves doesn't sound too bright. In my opinion, the storm would more damage the higher/lower you are on the size spectrum for a reason: If you're big, you get hit more. If you're small, just one hit wreaths you in flames. Huge (for you) flames, at that.

What if a creature is only partly in the area, though? Like, if I just cast Firestorm (or some other area of effect spell) on that 40' snake's tail?

Even still -- doesn't matter. The same way a fireball will deal its full damage to someone who fails their save, even if only a little bit of that target is in the blast area, Firestorm will always deal its full damage to anyone it strikes -- no more, no less.

The same way, in fact, that the Finest pixie with a dagger will always deal its full damage to the most Colossal dragon (before any DR is taken into consideration), even though it's really only poking one pinprick between two scales, and a Cloud Giant with a greatclub will smash the dragon's face for its full damage even though that club does its damage over such a wider area.
