Default other planar beings - how do they get here?

to the material plane i mean?
ok so there are the monster summoning spells, but they just do not have the duration. and individuals can summon more, thinking demons and devils here. but how do the original ones get to the material plane?
other than dm fiat and gate spells?

Most campaign settings have permanent or semi-permanent links/gates/wormholes/etc. to other planes set up *somewhere*. Especially ones that link to the Astral or Etherial plane, and to the elemental planes. I think most extraplanar creatures permanently on the prime plane are assumed to have gotten to the Astral or Etherial plane, or one of the elemental planes, and then to the prime.

    1) Planar Ally spell. But that requires them to be serving a caster, rather than doing their own thang on the Prime Material...

    2) Planar Binding, escaping and eating the caster. Sounds more like it to me. Foolish wizards.

    3) Number 29 bus.
If a tree falls in the forest and the PCs aren't around to hear it... what do I roll to see how loud it is?

Many of the more powerful outsiders have some sort of Plane Shift capability. And the weaker ones could be brought here by the more powerful ones.
