    Honor's hammer swing sends a sharp crack through the crystal's surface, splintering shards of it to the ground, but the second one is repelled by a soft magic force that stops it before impact. Aanash and Svek both deliver strikes that weaken the surface of it further, coating both book and crystal in acid and then thunderously whipping it with the tail. Its magic persists, and while Adam is incanting a blessing, the crystal is channeling its own magic, animating yet more tomes that fly across the room to burn and blast the party.

    Honor crits, then misses. The narration is just narration, the low attack roll did it, rather than any special power.
    Magic Resistance doesn't save the crystal from Acid Splash hitting. The book is barely still animated.
    Aanash hits.
    Adam blesses.

    The crystal animates 3 more tomes - two on fire, one that fires a bolt of force, as opposed to the last necrotic one.

    The fiery tomes deal the following at the start of your turns:-

    Adam: 3 fire

    The two bolt-flingers miss with their attacks.

    Honor's hammer blows shatter deeper cracks in the crystal while Svek and Adam do their best to fend off the tomes that strike at them over and over. Aanash's thunderous whiptail strikes again, shattering the ruby red object into a thousand pieces that dissolve into dust, and then vanish with an invisible, unfeelable wind.

    With the loss of the animating force, the books collapse in a clatter of wood, leather and paper. The ice wall that had pressed closer and closer dissolves with it, leaving nothing but a soaking wet puddle in its wake. The battle, it seems, has come to an end.

    Adam doesn't actually take that last fire damage, since it died from Aanash's hit and the books with it.

    Honor watches the red gem shatter and blow away, not stowing his maul until all the enemies are confirmed dealt with. Then he does so without flourish, but with a sigh of relief. "We've fought our battles. Now we should reap our rewards. Hopefully these ruins contain treasures to be worth the blood and oil we shed here."

    A good deal wearier than you were before you started your expedition, you can at least look forward to hopefully not more ambushes of giant dogs or aggressive spirits of the beyond, and now comes the steady process of recovering what items you can find. With Svek and Aanash still feeling the harsh changes of their transformations, Adam and Honor take the lead on the search, splitting up to cover as much ground as possible as quickly as possible.

    The hat could go to either Svek and Aanash.
    The ring of the Ram should probably go to Honor, as he is short on ranged options. On the other hand, anyone can benefit from it.
    Cloak probably doesn't go to Honor, as he doesn't need to breathe.
    Scrolls/consumables can be saved for a rainy day.

    Honor takes the goggle from Adam's outstretched hand, looking over the other goods with a introspective distance in his eyes. He stretches the band of the goggles and snaps them onto his face, shutting out his eye lights and minimizing the expression of the warforged even more. "Perfect." He says.

    Once you've finished packing things away and divvying them out to each other, the trek back to the Karrnathi emplacements looms. It's a tense march, with eyes glancing this way and that for any more enemies that might leap from the rooftops or ooze up from the sewers beneath. Combat...does not find you, yet the mental taxation of desperately focusing is draining nonetheless, and it's a precious mercy when you approach the bastion of undead soldiers. They allow you to pass, and even point you towards a not-yet-ruined building in which you can lay out bedrolls with four walls and a roof. It is not comfortable, but it is better than camping outside, and you get a bit of privacy for discussions - though you can never be quite sure if the undead are listening or not. While most of them are bags of bones and metal, sometimes they do seem to move far quieter than any living person should be able to.

    Perhaps a half-decade inside the Mournland has honed their skills.

    Regardless, your rest is welcomed, and in the 'morning' you're refreshed, mostly, and ready to hopefully finalise your plans for the Vault, and the rescue/retrieval mission.

    Making the wary, tense track through the city, Adam is keenly conscious about his lack of spells, and the generally battered nature of himself and his companions. Reaching the soldiers, he remains tense, as if this was all a trick? This would be the perfect time for the betrayal.
    But none comes, and the soldiers even provide a fairly nice building to rest in.

    In the morning, Adam looks to his companions. "I've a plan for the sending, but I think it best to run it past the major before sending it." He pauses, then continues speaking. "Mournlands. Kundarak Expedition not found. Searching Bank Today. 201st shock troopers under Major Alarich Kessler request permission to return to Princess ir'Wynarn. New Cyre? Elsewhere?". Afterwards, he falls silent, clearly waiting for comments.

    "Well, if no one else desires it," reaching into the pile of identified treasures, Aanash extracts the stylish cloak and swirls it around onto his shoulders. The colors match his officer's coat quite well. Adjusting it, he turns and looks at himself in the reflection glancing off of some dark, broken glass. "If Honor's attunement to mystical items is overtaxed, I have 'room' yet for the boots," he adds.

    When they arrive at the shelter of the Karrnathi camp, the tiefling's seemingly boundless energy meets its definitive end, and he practically collapses onto his bedroll like a sack of hammers. Come morning, he remains slumped on the bedroll until forcible stirred awake by another, the exhaustion of the day past trapping him in lethargic slumber.

    Honor nods his approval at Adam's message, settling into the Karnathi camp with a metallic whine, as though his mechanisms were overtaxed and in need of servicing. While he waits, Honor pulls out some blacksmith tools and sets about patching himself up.

    A moment after Adam's Sending, Oargev's response comes through loud and clear.
    “Finish the mission, then the bring Karrnathi to Salvation. We'll make arrangements."

    The message is short - far shorter than it needed to be for the magic, or for how he usually speaks. There might be a slight sense of the headache it's causing in his words, but his message is clear enough - you have the go ahead to lead an entire company of Karrnathi undead onto Brelish land, and any political fallout seems to have been accepted by Oargev.

    "We've reached out to Prince Oargev. His response was to instruct us to finish the mission, then bring the Karrnathi to Salvation, and that there will be arrangements made." He pauses for a moment. "Did you, by chance, do any scouting of the area around the bank yesterday?"

    If the Major still had eyebrows, and if his face wasn't completely concealed beneath plate armour, you expect he would have raised a singular, quizzical eyebrow. "We did not, as we had no reason to believe you would acquire clearance for us to head west. Our efforts have been spent entirely on preparing supplies and equipment for our exit from Kalazart. I presume Salvation is some new town? Regardless, the agreement has been formed. Advise me when you intend to make your way to the Vault, and we will initiate an attack elsewhere to draw away Warforged forces. You should finalise preparations before you go, I expect that they will not give up their position willingly."

    Adam nods at the Major's question. "Yes, Salvation is a fairly new town, formed to support actions within the Mournlands. It isn't much." He goes on to give a brief explanation of it's location.

    Discussing the plan with his companions, Adam nods. "I don't think stealth and infiltration are really our strong suits. If we can take advantage of the Major's distraction, and come at them from an unexpected direction? That's probably the best plan we can get. Maybe if we could lure some of those flesh monster things into attacking as well? But I don't see a way to do that. I could use an augury, but combat tends to be too unpredictable to draw useful conclusions."

    Honor spent the rest sharpening his backup weapon, a greatsword, and maintaining his hammer. When time came to discuss things with the Karnathi his armor had been patched, his mechanisms reinforced and restored, and the alien looking goggles covering up his most emotive features.

    "We shouldn't make any plans that are too intricate. Such machinations rarely survive contact with the enemy. I'm looking at this as a military advance- when the Karnathi draw the enemy away we rush the bank, crush any opposition, and attempt to get inside as quickly as we can. If need be we could hold off a small army with a sufficient choke point. I do not intend to fall while there is still more to do for Cyre."

    There doesn't seem to be any disappointment in Aanash that his idea was shot down. If anything, Honor's 'speech' gets him more excited. "Hold off a small army, you say?" Bringing his hands together, he taps each pair of fingers against the opposite in turn. Some pairs produce a metallic clicking sound. "Well if simple is what you wish, I am a simple man."
