Im pretty much only holding onto my DnD Beyond for the UA docs and surveys at this point, when are we due for the rest of the priests?

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
Usually the next video has dropped on or shortly before the final day of the survey (including any extensions.) I wouldn't be surprised if there was a delay however.

Yes i imagine we will either get quite a stretch of radio silence, or perhaps conversely a huge influx of 'unrelated' news to talk about over the next few weeks.

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
I don't think the UA team is controlled by the corporate/legal team. TBH I wouldn't be surprised if many people within WotC know (and knew) that the thing was a bad idea. Or maybe I'm just holding onto hope because the downfall of DnD would be a huge inconvenience to me personally :/

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
Agreed. The current situation may affect WotC's timetable for UAs and/or surveys, but it shouldn't disrupt the design team's work directly.
I've got a playtest session today, so I'll be submitting my survey tomorrow. I'm hoping it won't be a long wait before we see the rest of the Priest classes. We don't need no steeeenkin' signatures!

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
Yep. If one is thinking of short-term benefits with one company, before gaining personal bonuses and accolades for those short-term company profits and then leaving (before long-term problems occur) to land a position at another company, rinse and repeat, one can gain quite a lot of gold, leaving dead geese in one's wake. So great for an adventuring exec, not so great for the villagers (in various different villages) that wanted long-term prosperity from their village's goose remaining alive.
Right now we are looking at the adventures of the village of Wotc.

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
I like the idea that the dev team knew this was a horrible idea so they built the release schedule around it, like:
October: Races and Level 1 Feats
November: Expert Classes, More Ardlings
December: Clerics
January: Massive OGL Cluster****
February: Paladins
March: Ardlings Again
etc.

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
I feel slightly bad for the race/species due to its name being so easily misspelled (intentionally or not) in that way, mostly because to me its easy to read and write, but also because it's kinda funny as-is from a finnish perspective (the word 'aasi' means 'donkey' in finnish). However, I believe (and this just my guess) the name is derived from the word 'aesir', referring to deities from the norse mythology.
Also, because it's one of my all-time favorite races/species in D&D, I have to admit I may be biased about this.Last edited by Arkhios; 2023-01-18 at 07:03 AM.

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
With Ardlings I look at it more in the vein of “Twitter can’t complain about the lore if it doesn’t exist”
If all rules are suggestions what happens when I pass the save?

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
I kind of do want to talk about them.
My gut (which carries much weight) says that the Ardlings are a twofold solution: Putting funny animal people into the core game, and having a catch-all race so they don't have to create an "official" species for every theriomorph possibility.
Dogfolk? Covered.
Non-jungle cat cat people? Covered. ...but people just use Tabaxi anyway, so...
Cowboys? Covered.
Bears? Pigs? Badgers? Axolotls? Throatwarblers? Covered.
The celestial connection (which you note got significanltly downgraded) feels like an attempt at giving them a lore rationale. They would have done better to give them a fey origin. Two groups in core (elves and ardling) from the fey is fine, though it might get a little crowded with the larger pool (eladrin, shadar-kai, all goblinoids, faries, harengon-if-the-aren't-simply-retrofitted...)

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
Not that I'm particularly fussed about keeping up with D&DOne, but I would certainly hope any fey connection is lore only and not mechanically codified (or at least, no more mechanically codified than what Elves and Half-elves currently have). Why?
Because when 4E was written, characters could, from as early as the first PHB, be from multiple origins (Natural, Fey, the Genasi introduced Elemental, the Devas (Aasimar) introduced Astral, etc). Because this was early on in 4E, the game knew to account for that and not have any particular origin advantaged or burdened for it.
But when 5E started, every player character option was Humanoid. And all of the player-facing rules that paid attention to Type were only written to account for that. Any game features or spells (for example, Cure Wounds or Hallow*) that operated differently according to Type might also be fair or they might be a killer advantage or an undue burden. If the latter, who cares? No player character is going to be anything besides Humanoid, so why would it matter, right?
Cue modern 5E, where Autognomes have to have racial traits that specifically let them benefit from the same hit point restoring spells that all player characters need to be able to use. Where Warforged just simply aren't Constructs at all, because despite it running counter to the lore, they need to be Humanoid at least as far as the mechanics are concerned for the sake of fairness. Where Satyrs and Centaurs can get shut out of an area by Hallow, no saving throw, no recourse, just sit outside, twiddle your thumbs, and wait for the next adventure, instead.
*"For example" I again emphasize. Neither Hallow nor Cure Wounds are the big issue. They are EXAMPLES of the bigger issue. I emphasize this because I've had this conversation before and somehow, the specific example kept getting confused for the larger problem (which is that if multiple and varied creature types is going to be an option for players, then all of the player-facing rules need to account for this).

Re: So.. uh... whens the next UA?
I find the premise of said video kinda cynical, and as such, very sad position to take by anyone.
What if they are truly, and honestly, sorry for what they've done? Did anyone even consider that? Or is everyone already deadset on believing them as evil to the core, without any chance for redemption?
OGL 1.0a is over 20 years old. Like it or not, it will change someday, somehow.Last edited by Arkhios; 2023-01-18 at 05:00 PM.
