I get that, and I like that theme, it's just that it's been so long since any of the monsters actually acted monstrous for more than five minutes that it is getting hard to take newly-introduced monsters seriously.

Girl Genius XXXIII: The problem is that they're all insane

I vote for these two, just because they ought to be in one title.

    Noted.

In case people miss the edit, the first post had a load of titles missing as we have had far, far more options than I anticipated when I wrote the sorter, and I missed one of the counters when I updated it. The list is correct now.

I would say Seffie is on her own side first and foremost. She loves her brother, they have a genuine bond which seems uncommon among their family, and wants to keep him from harm, but she's also infatuated with Gil and still seems amenable to the idea of him ruling the Empire and marrying her, so she wants things that everyone else considers mutually incompatible. I don't recall if we've gotten her view on Tarvek at any point.

I think her ideal scenario is that she marries Gil, and then either Gil becomes Storm King with Martellus swearing fealty to him, or Gil retires to a lesser position while Martellus become king, followed by marital bliss and peace and harmony. She doesn't want to choose between her brother and the man she's in love with, and is probably willing to trample a lot of people if she thinks they're in the way.

Critically, there has been a relative lack of collateral damage for some time. The big combat set pieces in England: the dome, the island; and the most recent battle with the Polar Lords have been broadly devoid of innocent bystanders. Sure there have been casualties, but these are mostly people, epitomized by Wooster, who have made their own choices. We're getting sparky armies fighting each other, not sparky armies wreaking devastation.

There are in-universe justifications for this. The Baron spent the better part of a generation enforcing a code of behavior upon the sparks of Europa that basically boiled down to 'don't make a mess,' and while his ability to restrain such persons in his absence doesn't seem to have taken, the Pax Transylvania seems to have made a rather distinct impression on the younger generation. Forced to at least defer dreams of conquest and pillage, even otherwise irredeemable characters like Martellus developed other interests.

Additionally a not-insignificant fraction of the old guard of madboys was killed and/or imprisoned at Mechanicsburg and has now been off the board for several years. Others have been subsumed beneath Zola/the Other's nefarious influence. The lead up to the current clash of superpowers seems to have had a temporary effect on reducing ongoing chaos by forcing the various disparate factions into alignment with greater entities.

Other vote: "The one the Foglios always seem to drop in the middle of our voting".

During the Cold War most dictators either aligned with USA or with USSR; one could imagine a similar dynamic at play in Europa. It takes some skill and courage to remain unaligned when there are Powers running amok that can crush you if you annoy them.

Both tallied (or not, in the case of the latter), although Tentacular Depravity is still very Girl Genius (at least, in places).

Not busy enough! I suggested less than half of the titles! Edit: On recounting, I might have proposed 31 of the 61 titles, which would mean I proposed just over 50% of the titles.

And put me down as supporting "Heathen British Magic holds no sway here" and "Uncouth Murder Hobos" (which I almost wrote as "Uncouth Murdo Hobers", which almost makes sense so I should get some sleep.)

Voting for Heathen British Magic holds no sway here.

    New comic

Just cats being cats. These two might be my favorite couple in this comic.

Somehow I feel like Krosp's assessment of the situation is slightly more accurate though.
And it made Seffie angry for some reason..
"If it lives it can be killed.
If it is dead it can be eaten."

I feel like Krosp missed the obvious reply in the vein of "Is it really in the Kingdom? The Heterodyne bows to noone".

Also, voting for Heathen British Magic holds no sway here.

Considering that the original Storm King was waging war against The Heterodyne, I'd say that no citizen of Mechanicsburg considers the town to have ever been part of any Empire - including Klaus', but especially not the Storm King's. Ask a Jager if Mechanicsburg is part of the Storm King's Empire and you'll likely lose your hat - and any plan where you lose your hat is a bad plan.

What upsets Seffie, I believe, is Krosp pointing out that Gil is in thrall to Agatha. She doesn't care about the politics of Mechanicsburg, her eyes are on the prize (either sister to the King, or married to the King), and pointing out that Agatha is a very serious obstacle on both paths curdles her cream.

Added to the list (unless you want to pass it through to the next set of thread titles).

Gotta giggle at Tentacular Depravity being on the list (isn't that one from the Questionable Content thread?), but not voting for it.

    I can't decide between:

Girl Genius XXXIII: Observe my mighty clank army and tremble!
Girl Genius XXXIII: Plotting, ranting, and menacing the countryside

If I only get one vote (or in the event of a tie) my vote goes for Plotting. Voting for both otherwise.

I burst out laughing at the final panel of today's comic. Seffie's expression and wild hair are just priceless.

    Both tallied.

    The basic voting rules are:

    • You can vote for any number of titles, and can add more votes in later posts, but (obviously) not more than once per title.
    • If you suggest a title you are automatically deemed to have voted for it.
    • In the event of a tie, I will throw a die to resolve it.
