Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
I've seen people draw parallels between events (new year, etc) in-comic and do the math, but the bottom line is, comic time will always be totally subjective. If The Giant needs to pack more strips into the same amount of time (or gloss over a few weeks with a single line) then that's what'll happen.

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
How exactly does this "outsider" thing work?
Anyone care to educate someone relatively ignorant on the D&D front?

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
"outsider" is a creature native to other planes of existence. All of the events in oots happen in the Material Plane. When someone from the material plane dies, his soul goes to an afterlife in another plane and his soul can return to the body with magic. But outsiders, who are born in one of these other planes, can't be raised from the dead because their soul does not depart from their body to anywhere else.

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
That's very true. And as the Giant's description of the OotS's second fight with Miko shows (hooray for the return of the Class and Level Geekery Thread), she's not really built for fighting strong melee opponents. Plus, she'll be in cramped quarters, giving her limited maneuverability even against enemies that can't instantly kill you if you fail a save.

Crystal's not too smart, though. Is it possible she's like Belkar and can't actually cast spells?

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
Is it? Haley described Crystal as an assassin in OtOoPCs, but since we have at least one example (she-who-shall-not-be-named) who was called a samurai while not being a member of that class, there's no guarantee Crystal is actually a member of the Assassin prestige class either.

And in an argument with Haley in Origin of PC's, Crystal declared her intent to use "Death Attack" on Haley, so she's definately taken some levels in assassin.

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
Of course, now, we must now stop talking and realize that Crystal is actually Miko reinacarnated into the past. But in seriousness, my guess is that she actually does have assassin levels.

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
I don't know if can take out the whole guild by herself, perhaps she can do enough damage to halt an all allout attack for a few rounds.
Perhaps the guild plans on taking her alive for some reason or another?

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
About the only reason the guild might take her alive is that the plot requires it. On the evidence before us, they just want her dead.

Who thinks the next OOTS update'll be Halloween?
(And if this was a different sort of comic, I'd say it would be a prank comic...)

Haley can get away with King Kong tactics vs. the thieves' guild mooks because of the Conservation of Ninjutsu. Haley vs. Crystal, on the other hand...

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
Maybe someone can explain this - is the giant's "smilies" that he chooses for the discussion threads related to the comic, how he is feeling at the time, or is it directed to some misfeasance/malfeasance in a comment of the thread?
In other words, there is an angry red face right now on the Giant's message - is this related to Old Blind Pete? something else?

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
I have my own TV show featuring local musicians performing live. YouTube page with full episodes and outtake clips here.
I also have another YouTube page with local live music clips I've filmed on my own.
Then there is my gaming YouTube page with Kerbal Space Program, Minecraft, and others.
Finally, I stream on Twitch, mostly Kerbal Space Program and Minecraft.

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
Wait, since Celia is an Outsider that was Summoned to the material plane... doesn't that mean that if she's "killed", she's really just returned to her home plane? I'm pretty sure outsiders are only able to truly be killed on their home plane of existance. I mean, they might not be able to summon Celia back for a while, but it's a lot better than her just up and dying, right?

Re: OOTS #603 - The Discussion Thread
Summon spells bring an outsider to the material plane for a fixed amount of time (rounds per level, usually), after which the outsider returns. Spells like Gate create a portal that allows an outsider to physically journey to the material plane, without a time limit for them returning. Summoned creatures that are dropped to 0 hit points, like you say, merely return to their home plane, but gated-in creatures can actually die.
