Default [3.5]Running 1200 miles per day without a problem

Did you know that you can run 1,200 D&D miles per day at level 20 without any negative side effects?

Step 1: Take 20 levels on monk to up your base speed to 90 feet per round.
Step 2: Take the Dark template from Tome of Magic to up your base speed by 10 feet per round. Use LA buy off.
Step 3: Buy Boots of the Wanderer (page 138 Complete Champion).
Step 4: Take the Run feat.

Boots of the Wanderer says "While wearing the boots of the wanderer you automatically succeed on any constitution checks required for running or making a forced march".

With the run feat you run at x5 your base speed, which is 100 feet per round. That means you can move 500 feet per round. That is 5,000 feet per miniute, 300,000 feet per hour (50 MPH), or 1,200 MPH per day. Using the 6,000 foot D&D mile.

Even using a regular medium creature with no monk levels, no dark template, and no Run feat you can still run 288 miles per day (360 with the Run feat).

Not a whole lot in most games.

But if you are moving armies or the like and don't have access to teleportation circles it can become very nice. Kinda like whole warforged units are nice.

I'm not just any post-officer, I'm the POSTMASTER GENERAL!

It would still take 21 days to encircle the earth around the equator, however. Just goes to show how much smaller the D&D world tends to be compared to the real world.

If you have an army of 20th level characters, moving fast is the least of what you can do. I'll grant it's amusing though.

Me: I'd get the paladin to help, but we might end up with a kid that believes in fairy tales.
DM: aye, and it's not like she's been saved by a mysterious little girl and a band of real live puppets from a bad man and worse step-sister to go live with the faries in the happy land.
Me: Yeah, a knight in shining armour might just bring her over the edge.

Read the rules for Run. The only requirement to keep running is that you keep making the Fort save. The books negate the Fort save, allowing you to run all day.

Boots and yes. Because of how the Run rules work.

Here we go. Dark Necropolitan Catfolk Barbarian 1/Scout 1 with the Quick trait, an item of +30 speed, Wild Talent, Speed of Thought and of course the Run feat. Base speed of 120, no Con score, so may be able to run forever(depending on how you read the rules). Level 4, though XP would be level 4+3,000.

No. Unless it happens to be, in which case I'll take credit for it without knowing what I was taking credit for.

I just thought it would be amusing to juxtapose the awesome running force with the real-world practicality. Usually in D&D, there is some power that is minor in fantasy terms but world shaking in RL. For example, Cure Light Wounds.

But then he wouldn't be in the future to go bakc in time to stop him from being a monk! And the zombie apocalypse will destroy the world because noone else can run fast enough to knock them over, rendering them unable to do anything!
