I feel similarly toward the word "Asian." Many peoples encompass this region of the world, with cultural and language differences. Calling me "Asian" is hardly meaningful.

This post has me worried over my own language acquisition. What if the Russian I am learning is outdated? If I go to Russia and speak, will they mock me?

I'm fairly familiar with American (and to a lesser degree, Canadian and European) cultures and such, but I can't say I know much (along those lines) about say, the Middle Earth East, or Asia.

Well, Latin American culture is fairly homogeneous. It's just that the immigrant groups staunchly refuse to adopt local culture. But in general the locals customs are fairly uniform across the region and the immigrants resemble the culture from their origin country around the 1900s and 1850s.

In which case saying the last isn't saying anything new or interesting. While postulating that emoticons can be a meaningful answer would be much more interesting because it doesn't trivially come from that expectancy.
