    Default The Boys season 4

    Spoiler

Nope. Still can't put these trailers on this forum.

All I want is Homelander's "creamy delicious milkshake" to just be a normal milkshake. Please for the love of everything make that a boring, standard milkshake.

Given it's the penultimate season I do expect this one to end on a massive downer. Ever since they introduced the election subplot I've been wondering if that's where things go south really hard, with Homelander running for - and winning - the presidency.

You can see in the trailer itself that Homelander is talking about how the country is corrupt beyond repair and they're going to save it, how he's reforming the supes into wrathful gods... It certainly could lean that way and that would certainly raise a very good question for the final season.

I wonder if they'd go the route that makes a bit more sense given how much they like to mirror recent events and people: Homelander runs for the Presidency and loses, then leads the supes in a successful coup. Could go either way really, depending on whether they want an all-out war final season or to keep to the underground nature of The Boys.

I'm gonna go super meta and speculate that the election season/ramp up to supe war takes up this entire season, and they leave the outcome open ended at the end, waiting on the real world to decide which way to pivot for the final season.

Either way, everything goes horribly awry in the final season, of course, and we maybe get a brief period of living under totalitarian, albeit incompetent, supe rule.

The first three episodes have dropped. Three whole hours of goodness, I hope. I'll dig in later today.

Pausing two minutes into episode 2 for this observation:
    Spoiler

Will Ferrell is a fantastic actor. From his very first line, I could tell this wasn't a flashback but a movie-in-the-show because of his delivery. I hate how he basically played "mentally-deficient man-child who does X" for most of his major career because the man is phenomenally talented.

ETA: Also, updating the thread title.

I was like Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at the screen when...

    Spoiler: Episode Two
    Show
I saw Chuck from Supernatural. I did not expect him to go the places he went, but I do love the little easter egg during that scene if you've got X-Ray commentary on.

Still, it's a strong start. Just your typical hyper-violent and morally questionable protagonists doing their thing while your typical hyper-violent and morally reprehensible antagonists do their thing.

My only concern so far is the show has kinda... stopped being a parody. It's been a while so I may have forgotten or perhaps there were deep cuts that I, as someone who isn't American, wouldn't have spotted, but I do not recall so many real life namedrops. Maybe because a certain demographic didn't realise the show was not-so-subtly mocking them, Kripke decided to do so more overtly? I dunno, but the kid gloves are clearly off either way.

    Worth pointing out:

    Spoiler

Homelander does, in fact, attempt a coup at the end of the comic.

Oh he is totally going to do it in the show too. As evidenced by my initial posts I thought he was going to run for the presidency and win it fair and square but the way he's talking in the new season so far? He is very explicitly going to kill the president as soon as he's sworn into office and he absolutely wants to set the stage for himself taking over the country.

There is just too much emphasis on the fact Homelander isn't satisfied with running Vought, he wants more, and he is absolutely only helping Neuman get in the Oval Office because she's a supe like him and he expects her to change the laws of the country for his benefit.

In fact the only reason Homelander hasn't already taken over the country, if not the whole world, is because he still thinks he needs to play by the rules. By the end of the season he may finally realise he doesn't have to.
