Default The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0391 - #0400)

Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 391 through 400.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here.

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here.

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on April 22nd, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, 385 A Sympathetic Ear drowned its sorrows in a copious amount of alcoholic beverages. The judging panel felt so bad for it that they gave it the award in an attempt to motivate it out if its stupor. That must have worked, because it soon took off like a strip out of hell, toward bigger and better things.

But which strip will be the final one out of this set to join it amongst the best of this hundred? The way we find out is with your vote in....

    .THE STICK AWARDS II: 0391 - 0400

Most of these are too dependent on the others to stand out too much, I feel, with the exception of 400.

#393 - Comedy, action, drama, suspense, this comic has it. While other comics were good too, none of them beat this one back when the were first published, and it's still going strong. And hey, it also confirmed that Haley is Chaotic Good and not Chaotic Neutral, so that's something.

393! Outside of the battle for Azure City itself, this is probably the most exciting strip in WaXP.

Ugh, lots of good ones in this lot (for me, at any rate). I was tossing up between 393 and 400, but 393 has some Thog in it, so I'm going with that one.

Hey, the run of comics where I started reading OOTS! I've been looking forward to this batch. Man, I can't believe it's been over 550 comics since I began following this strip... incredible.

Anyway, 393: Truth. Humor, incredible drama, great lines. It's tough to pick any other strip over this one.

Strange. I really like this ark, yet I can't really point any comic that is really that more awesome than the usual strip.

I would like to vote again for Julio, because he just is awesome, but the celebration over Haley's regained speech including the awesome : "group hug!" : "Hold Person." gets my vote.

Another great batch. I'm torn between 392, 393 and 397 (for a great way to bring an old trope to life).

I guess I'll go with 393, as it is a great development for the Haley and Elan and a great conclusion to the aphasia thingy. But it's ok for 392. Even if it didn't get my vote, it still looks cool

You know, I wonder if this isn't a case of what happens when one reads these strips all at once years after they were posted instead of seeing them go up one by one, but I am slightly surprised at the lack of forcefulness given in the votes for 393. Sure, it got the most votes here, but there didn't seem to be the passion behind it that I expected.

Well lemme tell you youngins out there, when 393 went live, the forum went nuts. Maybe it was just the release of FINALLY getting rid of those cryptograms (they went on for literally over a year). But seeing a major plot line that had been teased at for years pay off, and pay off in a hugely satisfying way makes me vote for 393 without a moments hesitation. Easily one of the best of this hundred set, and one of the best comics Rich has put out, period. It has everything in it. Comedy and drama. Pathos and thrills. Action and, yes, romance.

    ...

Getting rid of those blessed cryptograms (did I mention that yet? ) doesn't hurt it's cause either.

So 393 gets my vote. Easily.

    And with that....

    VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

393 - Truth is the winner this week. It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.
