Trog's Tavern CLV

[Ironsmith]

"I guess they won't mind if you shoot a bunch of slavers." Olvisin doesn't seem convinced. "Don't say I didn't warn you, though."

Klaus nods. "Duly noted. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to have a word with our pilot."

And with that, Klaus stands and exits, leaving Rose there to sit awkwardly between them.

Jack flares her wings when Miranda asks her name, and stares at her briefly with the eyes in her wings, closing her actual head-eyes. The eyes are good at seeing hidden things, especially when she's focusing through them. When she's sure Miranda is human, she closes her wings and opens her head-eyes again. "I'm Jack. Jack Door, yeah, I know. Mum thought it was funny." Although Miranda hasn't seen Jack transform yet, and the wings she just displayed are the short, rounded wings of an auk.

Miranda raises an eyebrow, not quite seeing what Jack was talking about. Either she didn't get the pun, or didn't care. "Well, Jack..." she begins, taking another drag from her cigarette, "I'll tell you what. I don't know you well enough to leave my... we'll say second best friend, in your care overnight. Clearly, you feel the same way about me, which I suppose is only fair. So either one of us gets a lot more apathetic in the next five minutes, or we're gonna have a long night ahead of us." She spreads her hands to emphasize this point. "...Do you drink coffee? This seems like the sort of night for it."

[Earl of Purple]

"I was planning on sleeping myself, in the nest there. Or I've got the hammock, Eun was going to see if it was as comfortable as... sleeping gel? Is that what she said?" The nest on the shovel is not big enough for a person to sleep in, being a bird's nest. Quite a large bird's nest, and expertly made, too, woven twigs and padded with scraps of cloth and feathers. It's also decorated with a few small cushions that don't look like they were made by a bird.

[Ironsmith]

"Sounds about right. Eun never was a fan of beds." Miranda smirks a little. "Just be glad she passed out when she did. Sleeping gel is generally used to suspend the sleeper in the nude. Imagine if I'd walked in on that." She lets out a little puff of surprisingly-fragrant smoke. "...But seriously, that does present a problem. Are you going to be able to sleep while I'm in here?"

[Earl of Purple]

"I never got why humans were so shy about their bodies. Not just humans, but most one-shapes. If it's not covered, it's somehow wrong. I've got a body, you've got a body, Eun has a body. Why hide it? Not like I have anything you've not seen before. Except the wings, I guess." Jack has absolutely no problem with nudity, so wouldn't have minded if Miranda did walk in whilst she was suspended in sleeping gel. Although Jack doesn't like the sound of being 'suspended' in it; makes her think of water, and if she's suspended in water, how is she not drowning? Jack's going to guess the answer is magic, otherwise Eun would probably be dead. Unless she's secretly a fish person, but Jack's pretty sure she'd have noticed. "Yes, I'll be able to sleep if you're here." She does go over to the shovel and adjust it so it's closer to the ceiling, however, and suspends a small bell from the shovel as well.

[Ironsmith]

Miranda opens her mouth to comment on Jack's apparent lack of nudity taboo, then thinks better of it and shrugs. "All right, then. If your sleeping isn't going to be a problem, then what say you we take the night in shifts?" She figured it was a fair solution; neither of them would be likely to try anything while the other was in the room, and they could still get some sleep that way.

Well, Jack could get some sleep. Miranda probably wasn't going to be able to. She wasn't a fan of beds, either.

[Earl of Purple]

"Sounds good to me. Do you want to sleep first? My eyes can kinda see in the dark, so feel free to turn the light off." It's more that they can see things that are hidden. If the light is off, everything is hidden by darkness, letting her at least see where things are. Jack's also going to actually finish putting up the hammock now, so Miranda can try sleeping in that. Should be quite comfortable; Jack uses it sometimes.

[Ironsmith]

Miranda mulls this over a moment. The order didn't really matter, so there really wasn't any reason to go against Jack's suggestion. "...All right." She agrees, slinging her jacket over a nearby chair. "But if it's all the same to you, I'd rather leave the light on, at least for now. I don't share your night vision."

[Earl of Purple]

"Go for it." Jack reaches into her satchel and pulls out a much-read copy of The Day of the Triffids, opening it to an apparently random page and starting to read, whilst Miranda sleeps- or tries to.

[Ironsmith]

Miranda, naturally, doesn't actually fall asleep. Not for want of trying on her part; she just can't seem to get comfortable, between the hammock (which she found to be too cold and way too unstable), the shock of being transported to yet another world, concern for Eun, bouts of paranoia regarding the rest of her team, and the persistent sounds of Eun snoring, she was simply too restless to... well, rest.

Of course, given that Jack's trust in her relied at least partially on her holding up her end of their agreement, she tries not to show it. She faces away from Jack and slows her breathing to be deep and even, so she's at least putting on a decent act.

Well, this is likely to be quite a boring scene- until Eun wakes up. Jack's going to continue reading until it's her turn to sleep, unless Miranda interrupts.

If Miranda doesn't, then Jack- in a few hour's time, most likely- will 'wake' Miranda and turn into a jackdaw, shrinking down as feathers grow from her body and a beak erupts from her face. Her feet develop talons and her arms become wings, and then she'll fly up into the nest on the shovel and sit in it, trying to drift off.

Rose nods, listening intently. What Demion said made sense; the basics of a well-rounded education probably weren't going to just disappear with the advent of magic. Of course, Demion had raised a couple of other questions with his explanation, as well.

"What's a Toolformer?" Rose asks. "Some kind of engineering thing, but with magic?" That would be neat. She wasn't particularly invested in the field, but she was sure there were a lot of engineering problems that could be trivialized with the use of magic.

Since Demion isn t sure what she means he just replies.

"A toolformer is a peraon who infuses object with spells. It is not common to cast a spell in my world but anyone can use such items. They are like a fokus if you want so. It goes a bit deeper but let s say without an ability to use magic you can t use them."

Demion watches Klaus leave
"What a strange guy. With hi. On your crew it must be a desaster."

[Morty]

Rose might notice that Olvisin doesn't seem to be the kind of person who feels awkward about things often. She tends to just plow through that.

"Hoo boy. I hope I didn't get him into trouble by telling him about Skyside. Him, or someone else."

She seems to have temporarily forgotten where she is, because she's looking around in a stupor, first seeing the bed she's in (which comes as a minor surprise), then Jack (which comes as a bigger surprise), then Miranda (which is enough to make her fall out of the bed). "What in-"

"Doctor Bu, I've got half a mind to slap some sense into you." Miranda snaps. "We get brought into a strange world, and the first thing you do is get blackout drunk? What were you thinking?! Were you thinking?!"

Eun doesn't say anything but holds her head in her hands. Clearly, Miranda and hangovers didn't mix well in her head.

Since Demion isn t sure what she means he just replies.

"Admittedly, it's not that bad." Rose sighs. "Usually. Even with as much of a bastard as he can be, he's done a reasonably good job of staying on our side, if only as a constant thorn therein."

"But... yeah, sorry, I'm pretty sure someone's going to die in the next 24 hours. 48, if they're lucky." Rose mumbles a little into her drink. "The man is a demon if you get on his bad side. At a guess, I'd say those slavers you mentioned would be on his bad side by default."

[Earl of Purple]

"Hey! She'd just arrived in a new world, that always takes some getting used to. And she's been drinking, so she's got Zeus's Curse right now." Jack does grab her satchel and pulls out a bottle of water. "This should help." It's a multi-use bottle, and it's filled with rain water. It's pretty clean, but it doesn't taste like tap water- or the spring water that often comes in bottles.

[Ironsmith]

Eun wordlessly takes the water bottle and gives it a tentative sniff before starting the process of chugging it.

"That's no excuse. I had three other agents have to deal with the same trip to the same place." Miranda replies testily. "They all had the good sense to not immediately violate common-sense bar protocol."

[Earl of Purple]

"Have any of them been outside yet? Have you? This is Trog's Tavern, in this city it's around every corner. If you don't know where you are when you leave it can cause a headache." It's luck really that had Eun leave through the door Jack was about to use. Luck or else the Nexus being kind and sending Eun someone to help get her settled, anyway.

[Ironsmith]

"Even so, everyone knows you don't just abandon your escorts and go get completely sloshed on your own. What if you'd been some kind of... of... good god, Doc, you make it seem like you've never been to a bar before!"

"I... actually haven't..." Eun manages to say.

"...Wait, really? No wild college parties ro anything?"

"Nope. Homeschooled."

Miranda sighs and pinches the bridge of her nose, clearly frustrated.

[Earl of Purple]

"I could have been worse than I am, yeah. I have been worse than I am. I've stolen from drunks before. I found a pirate's treasure, though, so I'm not that desperate any more." One of Jack's earliest scenes had her rob a drunk person in Trog's. Though to be fair, they went through her pockets first.

[Ironsmith]

"There, you see? Even she agrees."

Eun sighs. "You're right, you're right... I screwed up. I'm sorry."

"...You know what? It's fine. Nobody got hurt, thank god. Just... learn from this, all right? I came into this world with four partners, and I expect to leave with four."

Miranda turns back toward Jack. "...One more thing. I know we got off to a rough start before, but I want to thank you for being patient with us, and for helping out our scientist. Consider this me owing you one."

[Earl of Purple]

"Thanks, but don't worry about it. I've not served as welcoming committee before, it was my pleasure. Although... if you guys really want to repay me, I will always accept ice cream." Jack grins, and retrieves her shovel, putting the nest in her satchel and starting to fold it away.

[Ironsmith]

"You know, I could really go for some of that, too..."

Eun smiles a little. "Yeah. Yeah, okay, let me just..." She reaches for the spot on her waist where her Hotbox would normally be attached, only to find it conspicuously empty. "Um..."

"...Don't tell me you lost it."

"I... might have. Sorry, the past few hours are a blur."

"Tell me you at least backed up your fabrication files."

Eun grimaces. This was about to go very badly.

[Earl of Purple]

"Your magic box is here. You left it on the table, but I grabbed it." She'd also put it on a side-table, but obviously Eun and Matilda had other things on their minds than spotting bits of advanced technology lying around. She'll hand it to Eun, though.

[Ironsmith]

Eun lets out a sigh of relief. "Thank you. You don't know how much trouble that would have caused if I really had lost it." She pauses. "...Assuming someone found it and figured out how to use it."

"Especially with the files Eun has on there. It'd be one thing if, say, Rose or I lost ours; most of the information they carry isn't relevant outside of Earth." Miranda explains. "But Eun's tech is advanced even compared to us. That's not something we'd want to just leave at a random bar."

[Earl of Purple]

"Trog's is pretty much the most random bar in all the multiverses, for sure." Jack nods, as though anything else either woman said actually meant anything to her. Because it didn't.

[Ironsmith]

"If it weren't so much trouble, I'd drink to that."

Miranda gives Eun a bit of a glare before taking a seat on the bed. "Well, it looks like we've managed to survive our first night. Sort of." She glances down at her watch, not entirely sure how well it worked as a timepiece anymore. "Though that does sort of beg the question of what we do when morning hits. Any ideas?"

"Not personally, but... Jack, didn't you say you worked as a tour guide?"

Jack goes to wake Miranda at roughly the same time Eun wakes up. "That doesn t sound so good at all." Demion replies.
"But can you tell us more about you? I had the feeling that Klaus was strangly light when we shaked hands."

[Ironsmith]

"Really? Huh. Must be on a diet or something." Rose shrugs and leans back in her chair. "As for myself... well, I suppose I could tell you a little more about what I do, personally. Klaus was right about one thing; it doesn't really matter anymore." She finishes off her ale and sets the glass aside. "I guess there's no easy way to say this... I'm a seductress." She burps.

[Morty]

"As long as he kills slavers, I guess it could be worse," Olvisin admits. "No one's going to miss them, of all pe-" Then Rose mentions who she is. "Like, as a job, or...?"

[Ironsmith]

Rose blinks at Olvisin, not seeming to entirely comprehend the question. "...As opposed to what, exactly? A hobby?" She retrieves her Hotbox from the table and begins fiddling with it again. "Yeah, it's my job. Every time our branch of ARC needs... well, needed... someone to get close to a person of interest, they'd send me. It's amazing how much security you can bypass just by batting your eyelashes at the guy holding the key."

[Earl of Purple]

"I do, yeah. Mostly I show off the stuff that groundpounders- uh, no offence- don't see. Rooftop gardens, secret restaurants, that kind of thing. The best view in the city- in my opinion, anyway- is from the roof of a three-storey office block looking across at a park that doesn't end." It's got an infinite diameter, though a finite circumference. Jack doesn't know how to explain it, though. "What'd you be interested in, so I know what to show you guys?"
