Beware of Bites!
Spoiler: Recruitment thread's OP2020, unknown city in the middle of Russia. Simple folk, going by their daily lives ignorant of the evil that has come to town. A body is found in the snow, torn apart, its heart disappeared- but no blood to be found, their face twisted in a strange smile.
It's up to the concerned citizen (and, you know, the police) to find who did such an horrible crime- and how. Before everybody dies, possibly, though the evil won't mind that detail.
*****
This will be a game of Werewolf (no actual mafia inside) for which the rules can be found here.
Spoiler: Summary of rules anywayTo sum it up a majority of players will play the Town side, where you try to discover who the wolves are and lynch them, using the Day Phase to pick someone to lynch. Town doesn't know each other. During Night Phase, they'll be able to use their powers to hopefully get the edge required to win.
A minority will play the Evil side, who's objective is to kill all townies or make it the inevitable outcome, and are capable of killing someone each Night Phase regardless of their personal abilities. During Day Phase, they'll have to make sure not to tip off the townies. Evils know each other.
Day Phase and Night Phase are 48 hours periods, during the former people will talk between them and who wants will vote someone to get them lynched. At the end of the phase, the one with most votes will be eliminated- in case of a tie, the one who reached it first in the day will die.
During the latter people can still talk to each other but not vote- though everyone will have a personal power to use.
Private messaging can be done through PMs or preferably through the QuickTopic site- you will be sent a link when the game starts. I must always be included in every topic and PM, and your personal conversations with me CANNOT BE SHARED to prove your identity or some such thing.
Spoiler: Example of Roles
Spoiler: TownThe Crazy One: You perceived the Evilest One right off the bat. And you got thrown in jail for attacking them when nobody believed you. Well, jokes on them! You got pulled out and are now enjoying an escort, assuming you can provide results. Town Human Role. Each night you pick a player- you learn if they are a Monster or a Human. Each time you find a Monster, you can survive a night kill- immunity doesn't stack though. Due to the lingering effects of the Evilest One you don't know what monster they are or their faction.
The Doubting Cop: Yeah, right, Evilest One. Pfffft, idiots, even your partner. But you've been friends for so much, you won't abandon them even if they are CLEARLY wrong. Town Human Role. You start knowing who the Trusting Cop is. In addition, you can (very begrudgingly) take suspects in, stopping them from doing anything that night. If the Trusting Cop dies, you go mad with rage- you lose your power and instead gain a kill power which you MUST use each night.
The Trusting Cop: You've always believed in this stuff, but now that you've got proof you won't stop until you catch all the evil monsters. Good thing your partner didn't bail on you, or you wouldn't be able to hold it together. Town Human Role. You start knowing who the Doubting Cop is. Each night, you may shadow a player and learn who they target and from whom they are targeted. If the Doubting Cop dies, you fall into despair and the lingering energy of the Evilest One overtakes you- you switch sides from Town to Evil.
The Doctor: All these people coming in with such terrible wounds, you never saw something like that. While it makes your work harder, you have no intention of letting anybody die- and while you're at it, this is also an interesting case study. Town Human Role. Each Night pick a player, that one can't be killed for the night (you'll be told wether you save someone or not). In addition, as long as you are alive when morning comes there will be a public announcement that reveals which roles killed the victims, if there are any.
The Redempted Cultist: You were once a follower of the Evilest One. You grew horrified of his acts and ran away, scared and betrayed. Now that he's been defeated, you're willing to risk your life to defeat his spawns, using his own teachings. Town Monster Role. Each Night pick a player. That player either gets a one-time use of a stronger power or one-time double use, depending on who you targeted.
Spoiler: NeutralsThe Playful Spirit: You were a child that died when a game on a roof went south. Since then, you kept on wanting to play- you don't care about anything else. Neutral Monster Role. You have four different powers, that you can use once each in the whole game. You win when you use up all your powers and have played to your heart's content or when you get to the end of the game, which one happens first.
- Play with me! One player can't act that night.
- Play together! Two player switch targets for the night.
- Play with them! Pick two players, the first targets the second.
- Play alone! Pick a player, that one is immune to night kills.
Spoiler: EvilsThe Lycanthrop: You are the king of beasts. When you accepted that pact, energy filled you restoring you to new vigor and beyond. With your gigantic size, muscles thick as humans and claws as long as arms you stand at the top of the food chain and anybody that tries to challenge you will NOT walk away. You can only be Night-Killed by a Monster. In addition, if you die your killer dies too- if you die for a Day-Lynch, a random voter dies too, excluding other Evils.
There is no max number of players. The recruiting will end in 14 days- for any question feel free to ask.
Player List:
1. Unavenger
2. Rogue_alchemist
3. Snowblaze
4. Book Wombat
5. JeenLeen

11. Elenna
12. JoyWonderLove
13. Aventine
14. Bunny of Faith
15. CaoimhinTheCape
16. Logan1996
Spoiler: Additional rules or clarifications:

- Factions are Town and Evils, Human and Monster are kinds of roles not tied to factions. Some powers have different effects on one or the other;
- Roleblocking takes priority over protecting. Meaning that if the Doubtful Cob blocks a killer and the Doctor protects the killer's prey, at the Doctor it'll result that they didn't stop anything since the kill attempt never happened;

Once the perpretator is caught, after a violent fight with the police he vanishes in a puff of smoke, leaving with a eerie laugh as a cold wind rises up.
Valmark died. He was the Evilest One.
Spoiler: Evilest OneYou are evil incarnate, born to spread chaos, destruction and despair. You die at the beginning of the game leaving the seeds of evil behind, and hang back enjoying the battle of fates. With fries.

Re: Beware of Bites!
BEGIN DAY 1
It'll last 60 hours to give more time due to latency for not seeing the post immediately and because it's 1:45 AM here and I prefer not having to stay awake at this hour.
Even if I usually go to sleep at 4:00 AM, that's just a detail.

Re: Beware of Bites!
I'm RNGing this time because people find that less suspicious than me making up logic. "That's dumb logic Gac3, you must be a wolf." Not this time.
Aventine
Also, for a game with no confirmed roles, we just got two potentially confirmed roles in the OPLast edited by gac3; 2020-06-02 at 12:52 PM.

Re: Beware of Bites!
That's my point. My first random vote when only two people had voted? There is no reasoning there. My next vote however shall have plenty to analyze, I'm sure.
Ah. To be fair, it's been so long since I signed up that I don't remember the original thread.

Re: Beware of Bites!
If I start a bandwagon based on reasoning other than RNG, does that make me a wolf? One way to find out...
Lord Athos, you are charged with the murder of a perfectly innocent and harmless survivor who just so happened to be me. How do you plead?

Re: Beware of Bites!
gac3 says something suspicious-seeming and people are suspicious of them for it. Aventine defends them and is suspicious of their accusers.
...now, where have I seen these precise events before? And what were the alignments of the people in question?
Of course, the fact that AV is involved this time makes things a lot harder to read, but the parallels are undeniable.
(For those who weren’t around for the game in question: Midwest Mafia, Aventine and gac3 were town and their accusers, including me, were wolves.)I'm writing stuff, come and read it!

Re: Beware of Bites!
Actually... Now that snow mentions it... The quotes I was referencing were:
Both of which got major suspicion thrown at me. The joke was that I wouldn't do it this time. But I only just now realize that in both instances, the person I was suspecting was a Wolf. I remembered snowblaze was but didn't realize until now that Rogue Alchemist also was.

Re: Beware of Bites!
This is why I was tempted to start a bandwagon using RNG justification - to prove the point that doing so doesn’t automatically make someone a wolf just because rogue_alchemist and I did it as wolves. (And also to torture you with WIFOM, because evilness.)
But avenging my murder is more important. Plus there was a chance that RNG wouldn’t have given me a bandwagon to start.I'm writing stuff, come and read it!

Re: Beware of Bites!
They aren't. Or they aren't the same as they were in the opening thread but still exist. Or they are exactly the same and I'm just not telling you. Or SOME of them have been altered/removed and some haven't.
All four of them (and possibilities not yet mentioned) are legitimate answers.

Re: Beware of Bites!
16 people. I've not played werewolf/mafia all that much and not for a while, but with there's probably a decent chance for something to be in if there aren't any people knocking about without powers. Though some of the example roles provided didn't look super standard, so who knows? :P

Book Wombat, since... wombats are some type of monster, right?

Re: Beware of Bites!
Let's start off with a gambit of giving some strategic advice.

If the Doubting Cop is close to getting lynched, the Doubting Cop should claim their role and reveal the Trusting Cop, who I hope would verify.* I think the ideal "next move" would be for the Town to shift their votes to lynch the Trusting Cop.**
If the Trusting Cop is truly the Trusting Cop, we have a confirmed vigilante. Yeah, wolves might NK him, but we could network at least for that night to coordinate a good target.
If the Trusting Cop was not the Trusting Cop (e.g., the claimant was lying), we lynch the claimant next as a confirmed wolf.
If the Trusting Cop is close to getting lynched, whether or not it's worth revealing it and avoiding the lynch probably depends on a number of factors. Would networking get better if the Doubting Cop is confirmed Town? Is a vigilante better than a baner at the moment? Etc. But probably better to let the Trusting Cop die if he's up for lynch, lest he fall to Evil later.
*Not sure if the Trusting Cop would verify, though. If the goal is truly to win, in the sense of "Town wins is Town wins" and "Wolves win if wolves win", then the Trusting Cop's best chance of winning is survival if he thinks the wolves will win OR getting lynched if he thinks the Town will win. So they may or may not verify.
**lynching the Trusting Cop claim prevents a number of bad things: the wolves NKing the Doubting and the Trusting switching sides, as well as two desperate wolves making a gambit of claiming Lovers and being able to hide
----
And, since I'm posting something, better include a vote. I like gac3's reasoning, but I dislike people voting based on RNG. So, to deter someone else from getting in the practice: I'll start another 2-vote wagon on someone viagac3.
And if gac flips town, then suspicion on those who put suspicion on him.Last edited by JeenLeen; 2020-06-03 at 11:09 AM.

Re: Beware of Bites!
Just to clarify, if we're changing our vote are we supposed to edit the initial post with the first vote in with it struck through, or sort things out in a new post? Not sure to what degree editting posts is allowed for this!
