Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
Now that we know all 22 new subclasses introduced in Tasha's, I just thought I'd organize my thoughts by listing all the official, PC-intended subclasses in the game. I believe there are now 110, which is a little ridiculous.
These subclasses all come from five sourcebooks AFAIK (PHB, SCAG, XGtE, EGtW, TCoE), so I'm color-coding them red/orange/green/blue/purple respectively. If they've been re-printed, I'm using the more recent source (which eliminates Ravinca, Theros and ERftLW as sources since they are all reprinted, right?).

Re: Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
110, that's pretty crazy.
This reminds me, I had an idea for 5e mod where classes are cut down to four levels, and you pick a new class every time you finish your current one. Sort of a mix-and-match system. Naturally, classes would be trimmed down so much that I could easily take existing subclasses and turn them into full classes. If I did that, I'd have a total of 123 classes (13 + 110). That's a lot of classes (though not all subclasses might be suitable for this). I talk about this idea in more detail here.
Anyway, I'm not sure what the value of an alphabetical list of every subclass is. You might find it more useful to list them by class (and I see you ninja'd me while I was writing this), or by source book. If a subclass is printed in more than one source book, it might also be useful to make a note of that, say, by changing the color of the name part way through, like so: Bladesinger Wizard. It would be nice to be able to look at a complete list of every subclass for a given class, if, for example, you feel like playing a particular class but you're not sure which subclass to play. Showing all source books that subclass can be found in would be helpful for people who don't have every book, or who perhaps prefer an older version of that subclass (I hear Bladesinger is getting changed in Tasha's for example). I'd also precede the post with a color guide like those found in many class gives, e.g. [PHB] Player's Handbook, [SCAG] Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide. The acronym is probably quicker and easier for those already familiar with it, but there might also be some people who aren't familiar with all the acronyms (occasionally I see someone use an acronym for a spell and I have no idea which spell they're talking about).
But thanks for compiling all of this, it must have taken a bit of time. It's nice to have it all in one place.
Edit: I'm surprised at how balanced the number of subclasses are. In the PHB, wizard and cleric dominated in terms of the number of subclasses, but now everything except the artificer is competitive.Last edited by Greywander; 2020-10-29 at 12:13 AM.

Re: Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
Honestly until I read this I didn't even realize we knew all 22 Tasha's classes. This is an amazing resource, especially for those of us who sometimes forget that some lesser known subclasses are even a thing. Thanks!

Re: Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
This only excludes Death Domain Cleric and Oathbreaker Paladin, correct? Or am I forgetting another 'not for PCs' option somewhere?

Re: Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
Yes, but it's not as drastic as 8 versus 2 or 3. In the PHB, each class typically had three subclasses, with a couple only having two, while now the average is about 8, with some having 7 or 9. Cleric and wizard still pull ahead with 13 each, but the lead has been reduced. Actually, it seems like they have roughly the same number of additional subclasses, but because each class has more subclasses overall it represents a smaller percentage. We've gone from having 3x-4x, to less than 2x, and closer to 1.5x for some.

Re: Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
That's what I meant when I stipulated, although I guess you could count the Tasha's Sidekick classes too.

Re: Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
I mean, if there are only two "technically not PC-intended but everyone allows them anyway" subclasses in the game, you might as well include them, maybe with a star or something.

Re: Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
I reckon there is also the Pyromancer's subclass for Sorcerer in one of the Plane books (Kalash, I believe) and there are probably more hidden subclasses around. Still, pretty cool list!

Re: Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
You need to add the subclasses from Icewind Dale as well. There is a Big Game Hunter fighter, Frost Druid, and a crystal barbarian.
Don’t have the book in front of me but think there is more cold related subclasses.

Re: Official Subclass Library: Updated with Tasha's
This isn't true, an equal number of classes had two vs three subclasses with Cleric and Wizard being the standouts:
2 Subclasses (5): Barbarian, Bard, Druid, Ranger, Sorcerer
3 Subclasses (5): Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Rogue, Warlock
7 Subclasses: Cleric
8 Subclasses: WizardFor D&D 5e Builds, Tips, News and more see our Youtube Channel Dork Forge
