Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
I would recommend not.
Just got an e-mail confirming that my copy has been shipped, which means I'll be playing sometime tomorrow as well. Current plans are to blast through the campaign, then check out the map editor and get started on making Turn Based Starcraft, and heading online for some custom matches. Hopefully I can get a nice portrait without having to play a billion melee matches.5e Homebrew: Death Knight (Class), Kensai (Monk Subclass)Excellent avatar by Elder Tsofu.

Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
Inexpensive, check.
Great plot, eeeeh. Debatable. In any case you can get it from sources other than actually playing the game.
Amazing gamplay, NO. There's no debate here, the gameplay (single player, mind) was horrendous. Multiplayer is of course the legend is has become, but it's a bit late to get into that now. If you really feel like you need to play it, then just play the inevitable SC1 mod someone will make for SC2.5e Homebrew: Death Knight (Class), Kensai (Monk Subclass)Excellent avatar by Elder Tsofu.

Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
I have a hard time with old games. And as it currently stands, I don't really care about the plot.
If SC2 changes my mind in this regard maybe I will go back.

Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
The plot might be rose tinted glasses. I've played it recently, and while it's not as good as say, Watchmen's story, I still think the story is good.
As for the gameplay, what? Have you played SC 1 for more then a few minutes? Starcraft 1, as it stands, is better then SC 2. Give SC 2 time, and it'll be just as good.
But now? No real contest.trill in da playground

You've played SC2 single player? Has it already been released somewhere?

You know, I don't think I've ever actually seen ultralisks used seriously. You'd think blizz would buff them up some since they're such an iconic unit.

Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
guess you missed the Day9 with TLO as the guest.
TLO: I think ultras are way more powerful than in broodwar.
Day9: woah wait a minute I have to pause the game.
Now, Defend yourself.
I have seen them used seriously, especially in the last phase of beta, when they got even more buffed. Now in replays I see them more often than broodlords.
Day9 launch is here:

Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
Again, I have seen Ultralisks to utterly crush mech. It can be baffling to see how quickly they roll over siege tanks.
Day9 simply calls it "headbutting." Siege tanks die.Last edited by LurkerInPlayground; 2010-07-26 at 11:07 PM.

Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
Three days to practice my nuke dodging, then.
Wait, what? If you have Zerglings, and you will, they cockblock the Ultras from the fight, and regardless, the Ultras will be blown to hell and back by sieged tanks before the Ultras get there.

Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
there is many ways around this. The easiest, i think (i haven't tried it yet) is to make banelings, not zerglings, they move in to clear the way for ultras, and once cleared, they aren't in the way anymore.
Another way is to flank your opponent, swarm with zerglings in 1 direction and ultras in the other, just move your zerglingsin first and then out when the ultras get in.
I haven't seen any ultra drops, but you'd think (with thorships and immortal/colossi drops) that is is only a matter of time.Last edited by Forbiddenwar; 2010-07-26 at 11:36 PM.

Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
I've also seen Ultralisks acting as a vanguard, with smaller units acting as clean-up.
Creep also makes a huge difference, what with the speed bonus.

Re: StarCraft 2, Thread 2: Hell, it's about time
Blasphemy. Somebody like HuskyHD gives no insight at all.
Contrast with Day9, who gives a lot of insight. He breaks the idea of counters, gives a good explanation of strategy, planning, learning how to get your actions-per-minute up and generally emphasizing the nature of pressure.Last edited by LurkerInPlayground; 2010-07-27 at 12:44 AM.
