Forgive me if I'm just a wee bit cranky over this, guys...
But this is the one thread I can follow, and my character keeps getting left behind due to an incompatible sleep schedule, and it's only a 3-person scene...

And it's starting to get depressing and scary. It gets harder and harder to respond when you get a full page ahead of my last post.

Why do you think neither of my other characters have done anything in days? Well, no, actually, that's the multiple thread system that makes me too terrified to post anywhere else...

I dunno...I'm starting to feel like I can't do this...

Yeesh, so many monster characters lately. How do we not have a local gryphon yet?

Okay, I think I should address the overpowered characters before they become a big issue.


If you're going to introduce a powerful character, they have to come with some sort of drawback so they don't overshadow or make anypony else useless. As an example, Smoothie can't use her powers to their full extent because she's not skilled enough to control them. Short of making her go into berserk mode or getting on a sugar rush, she isn't more powerful than most other ponies. Considering what it takes to get her in berserk mode, I'd say 95% of the time she's a pretty normal pony. Heck, the only reason she's as powerful as she is is so certain sub plots are started. I should also mention she's more likely to run and hide than go into berserk mode, and so far I only know of one time she's going to go berserk in this RP.

Lix, it sounds like you don't intend to actually ever use your Alicorn's abilities to their full potential, so I'm not too worried as long as you stick by that.

For those worried about the dragon, she's not going to affect any ongoing plots period. She's going to give a few ponies dragon rides, scare the bejeezus out of the town and leave.

Rodny, I'm a little worried about your character. Most threats and plots are pretty much irrelevant if your guy can just call in super powered Unicorns to deal with them. Mind just making your guy a rather tough pegasus rather than having the full might of Celestia's royal guard behind him?

Well, I have this fear about intruding on threads that have had a lot of posts because I'm afraid of posting the wrong thing and so on... But I like Thanqol's idea.

So, my next question would be: how to handle the fact that, because I was so ludicrously slow due to said fear, Mystery's plot got hijacked? (This, I am not upset about, just trying to handle it). Another root-beer binge drunkeness would be a little too serious, but I have no better explanation, unless I just pretend it didn't happen, or there's still time to come to the party late because she was gathering up ghost-based equipment or doing more off-site research or something...

And, while I'm at it, any character relatively free so I can put the doctor in a scene?

I just made it so that Dreamrunner was forced to come to town. You haven't had Mystery go to the castle yet to find the Blueprints for the Black Matter Particle Decelleration Device. Minstrone already gave Mystery the map. So just go ahead whenever and post Mystery going to the castle whenever I am on. Better yet, get Dreamrunner help you find things in the castle since she is the Ghost Pony in question.

Solved the conundrum by having Minstrone's uncle to have created an exact replica of Dreamrunner incase anyone went to the castle to find her. It has all of Dreamrunner's memories, but is pretty much a golem. But no one can tell the difference.

2 of my three ponies are pretty powerful but they have weaknesses.

Purple is a normal earth pony. The most she has is her compelling voice and that only works for harmless suggestions like "order a burger" or "wear a red dress".

The Legs are very strong. Comically so. But they are old as heck and can't do more than megaton hooves and lifting heavy objects for a few seconds. Age regressed Orange Legs would be flightless Superman but Age regressed Orange would attract ursa majors and cause more problems.

And Grills is overpowered cooking wise. He is probably in the top ten chefs in Equestria. But how many ways can a perfectly cooked carrot solve a major problem? His fire magic is stong too but the rest of his magic is too situational or weak. So we probably can't have a couple ice giants attack the town when he is around and make it a plot point. Big deal.

That would be funny though,

On the issue of character level of power. Icy probably qualifies... if you put her in the frozen wastes of the North. Since this isn't dead winter (I presume), her powers are limited as best.

Silverpine is as average an earth pony as you can get.

Gwynfillion is skilled but not as strong as she boasts and is limited. Essentially she's overcompensating. She's too dense to realize that's not where her true potential lies either. "It's in the cutie mark," Benson says mystically. Plus a lot of her spells are 'technically' harmless. No fireballs, or crushing prison here and similarly related.

Fox Trot is pretty normal as his dancing skills are one trick pony-ish and contrived circumstances would require them to be...helpful in any combat situation. Really good evasion maybe. Decent motivational speaker even if he doesn't follow his own advice.

Spark Chaser He's a pretty fast colt, another boastful pony, can live up to most of the boast. Still has lots to learn because there will always be somepony better than him.

While he specialises in head to head (literally) combat in a normal fist hove/head fight he will win against most ponies. And his armor is also custom made, as in it's still solid gold, but it's only real difference is that it's not a show off armor but also has it's combat uses. As in the helmet end's with a rather painful horn like appandage.

I suggest for the purpose of this RP, make it so he has no way of contacting his fellow guards, or require a certain amount of time/money/materials to summon them.

(He is being forced into this vacation by the guards and Celestia herself, because he overworks himself by the way)

So I only read whatever thread Snickers is in, starting from when he shows up. Though, currently, my plan is just to have Snickers hang out at the Greenhouse as long as possible, because it moves relatively slow, and I like his interactions with Whitefire, Silvermane, and Foxglove. I can at least keep track of them... :smalleek:

The one time I made gumbo I made it dark and hot.

Funny thing is... I rarely ever cook for other poeple. I'm too much of a perfectionist when cooking that nopony's stomach can wait for me to finish.

I am very sorry about my prolonged absence, and it is going to continue. Also, Orzel, given that Dr. Cunning Magic's equation is half voodoo-flavored (though not exactly, both because it's never much interested me, and because I suspect portions of it are very pony-unfriendly), you may have just made a very happy witch doctor.

Bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. It's pretty darn huge It's big enough to hold the entire mass of the dragon who is 22 feet tall, 120 feet long, and has a wingspan of 150 feet. Currently in the library are Spark Chaser, Smoothie, Fizzle, Cloud, and Scholarly hooves.

Can you give us some more information? What exactly about the character is going to be villainous? There are too many variations on nightmares to know what you want to do based off of just that.

Well he won't be exactly "destroy/conquer the world" evil. He is going to be more like the "I hate you enough to break your limbs off" kind of evil but he will leave a option for befriending which might later turn him 75% less of an ass.

I'm aware that I can't force you to not play that character according to the rules, but please no. That's not the tone we're going for in this RP. That's far too grim.

Biography: Berathor is a rather special Pony. A Nightmare pony to be precise. Nightmare ponies are able to travel and change other creatures dreams. And unfortunately most of them are completely evil. The same can almost go for Berathor. Not much is known about his childhood except that unlike most ponies of that species, he was not abandoned by his mother, which is incredible rare since the mothers leave at a very early stage in their life so that the Nightmare ponies start developing a hatred for others at a younger age. This led to him developing more... *pony* characteristics.

Personality: Berathor hates the world for making him a Nightmare pony. This has caused him to be a bit of an ass in most situations, many times choosing the option that is more rewarding for him... All tho it has been known that some Nightmare pony have learned to be good.

@Rodny - How are Nightmare ponies made, and why is his mother staying with him significant?

It also sounds like Berathor is more 'bitter jerk' than straight evil. It seems to me that he'd like to be friends with other ponies, but the superstitions and stereotypes surrounding Nightmare Ponies works against that, and every time he gets hurt, it makes him that much bitterer. Part of his problem would probably be that, despite wanting to be nice and make friends, he continually expects the worst from other ponies he meets and that expectation colors his perceptions of everypony he interacts with.

I don't know. It sounds a lot like Gilda to me, and that kind of character might not be particularly well suited to this RP. It could end well, and it could end poorly depending on how it's played.

Is the mother a nightmare herself? Wouldn't her staying mean that she taught him how to hate others like she herself did?

It sounds like the public opinion of him is going to be terrible. Doesn't that mean he'll be a terrible pony? That doesn't seem like a concept that's particularly suited to this RP. I mean, maybe I'm wrong, and I don't have any more authority here than any other playgrounder, I'm just concerned. There's nothing wrong with certain character concepts, its just that some don't fit this RP. I've had a few for Soft and Smoothie, but I'm avoiding them because they're depressing and a few wouldn't make sense at this point. Plus, I'm trying to make my ponies fairly happy again.

Although there is one slightly non-pony background element she has that probably won't ever come up.

Okay, if you're intending to make him a redeemable character (which I'm assuming from your current character description), then I'm guessing it would be the following variety:

He has been taught to expect bad things from others all his life, and that hating others is the right way because everyone else deserves it. However, having his mother care for him has shown him that at least one person exists that does care and won't betray him. This lets him recognize this quality in others even though the fact confuses him since it flies in the face of everything he's ever been taught.

Essentially, he's not really evil, but he has never known any other way to be.

Does that sound accurate?

I can not remember where i had hit upon this very same problem... I remember that a few characters managed to make through and change one of the possibly most depressing characters i have ever created into something like Pinkie Pie.
